With the latest update in Guild Wars 2, a new mount skin has been introduced. However, it is a mix of many animals and thus has received a lot of ridicule from the community.
What kind of mount is this? With the new episode “Shadows in the Ice”, the griffon mount has received a new skin. It is named the “Holy Pegasus” griffon.
Even the name already suggests issues with identity, as Pegasus in mythology is a winged horse and not a griffon. To complicate matters further, the Pegasus-griffon has been given a horn.
Overall, the mount looks rather peculiar and has consequently drawn a lot of laughter and memes.
As usual, the skin is not particularly cheap: Those who wish to buy the revamped griffon must pay 2,000 gemstones or approximately 25 Euros.

How are the players reacting? The reactions from players include just about everything one could hope for:
- Some players respond with ironic memes
- Others engage in serious debates about what kind of animal it is
- Some react in disbelief and think the animal is an early April Fool’s joke
- Others release improved versions of the skin
The most commented thread was titled “What the fuck is this?” from which some delightful reactions stem:

- Nepentheia: “I believe it is a Trollicorn. ArenaNet is trolling us. They must be trolling us, because any other explanation would just be awful and heartbreaking.”

Why does the mount look so strange? The mounts were introduced with the expansion Path of Fire. Each mount has its own skeleton created. However, the same structure of the mount is always used for the skins for which the skin is created.
This is also the case with the Holy Pegasus: It is fundamentally a griffon, which limits its appearance and keeps the legs so short.
However, ArenaNet has not done itself any favors with the griffon’s front feet and the horn on its forehead. This results in an even weirder look and even more ridicule in the community.
However, the developers aren’t doing everything wrong. The current episode is being received better than the previous one. They also intervened in good time during the New Year’s Festival:
