In Ashes of Creation players can acquire their own apartments or houses, but can also rent properties in the game world. There, players can grow food or set up crafting stations and their own houses. The appearance of such a “Freehold” has now been shown in a video.
What are the Freeholds about? Properties can be rented by any player who has reached level 50. However, the number is limited as they occupy open space in the open game world. The total number is supposed to be in the “lower thousands” per server.
The property renters then pay regular fees to the owners of the respective Node. If someone fails to keep up with the rent, they will lose their property.
The properties offer many advantages:
- They are about 100×60 meters in size and can be designed according to personal preferences.
- They are not located in fixed places, but the player themselves determines the placement. However, there are restrictions. For example, your own property cannot be too close to roads or a dungeon entrance.
- You can build your own house, complete with furniture for decoration.
- Business and crafting buildings can be constructed through which you can produce items or trade with others.
- You can grow your own food on a field and breed animals.
- You have influence over the materials that can be mined within your property.
- You shape the image of the region. Other players can traverse the properties at any time, harvest materials there, or use the buildings for their purposes.

What happens if I don’t get a property? Since the number of properties is limited, many players will have to resort to an alternative. For this, there are instantiated houses found in every city. These vary in size depending on how much rent you want to pay.
Every player can own one house per server and can decorate and furnish it as they wish. For this, there will be furniture that can be freely placed. You can, for example, practice your professions there, use it as additional storage space, and display achievements.
What happens if a house or property is destroyed during a siege? During sieges of a Node, it can happen that houses and properties are destroyed, especially if a new group takes over control.
While the buildings will be destroyed, you will keep your decoration and the items you stored in them. You will also receive a blueprint, based on which you can rebuild everything in its original state if you regain ownership of a house or property.
How are the Freeholds received? Very well. In the livestream and the recording on YouTube, many positive comments are accumulating. Especially praised are the many freedoms that the owner of a property has, as well as the fact that any player can simply walk through and use the content.
Many compare it to ArcheAge, which is considered one of the MMORPGs with the best housing ever.
