What exactly is Blue Protocol? At first glance, one might think of Blue Protocol as a kind of new Genshin Impact. Graphically, the two titles are very similar due to the anime aesthetics. However, Genshin Impact is a coop game, whereas Blue Protocol is an MMORPG.
It’s all about PvE. At least at launch, Blue Protocol will not offer classic PvP. The MMORPG places great emphasis on storytelling, during which you will encounter NPCs that help you save the world. Because you are a time traveler fleeing 1,000 years into the past to prevent a catastrophe.
What’s all included in Blue Protocol
How do the battles unfold? Blue Protocol features very fast-paced and action-packed confrontations. You don’t need to lock onto a target or cycle through skills in a skill bar. You actively dodge, need to strike yourself, and can of course execute a few special attacks. Nevertheless, the battles feel more like in an action game.
What PvE elements are there besides the story? You can explore dungeons, either alone or in groups, and fight against dangerous boss monsters. This will grant you many EXP and resources. Additionally, there are also raids for larger groups of players.
Bandai Namco officially refers to Blue Protocol as an “Online Action RPG.” It is also stated as such in the wiki.
However, a tester on Reddit mentions that there are 200 players in the city, 30 heroes per zone, and you venture in dungeons with six players. Websites like MMORPG.com refer to the title as MMORPG, with some testers also speaking of this genre.
The genre is therefore currently not entirely clarified.
What does “no classic PvP” mean? You will not encounter other players in the open world and challenge them to duels or raid other players arbitrarily. Generally, there are no fights against other players, but still competitive gameplay.
It goes like this: You compete against other player groups based on leaderboards. The goal is to fight against waves of monsters as a group. Those who last longer will take the top spots in the ranking.
Are there also pets? Throughout the game, you can acquire Pokémon-like Imajinns. You summon these creatures, and they then assist you in battles with special abilities. Each Imajinn possesses different skills, and you must decide which of the creatures you want to take on your adventures.
What about loot? Blue Protocol takes a slightly different approach than the classic loot system, where defeated monsters drop items. You will have to craft your own equipment. However, you will receive the resources either as loot or find them in the game world.
What about the classes? You create your hero based on the classes Aegis Fighter, Twin Striker, Blast Archer, and Spellcaster, which basically belong to the Holy Trinity. Over time, it is possible to unlock new classes and thus specializations.
When will Blue Protocol be released? The MMORPG is currently in the beta phase in Japan. Beta tests are taking place repeatedly to gather feedback from players. The release in Japan is planned for 2021, but there is no exact date yet.
A worldwide launch is definitely planned. However, when this will take place is also not yet clear. However, it is likely to be the case in 2021.
