In addition to hunting monsters in Monster Hunter World, there are several tasks and optional quests to complete. These often bring special rewards, such as the rainbow color. However, unlocking this color is a bit of a mammoth task. Read about it in our Rainbow Pigment Guide to Monster Hunter World.
In Monster Hunter World, there are plenty of weapons and armor made from parts of hunted and captured monsters. These can be individually colored starting from a certain hunter rank.

A special coloration is represented by the rainbow pigment, which allows your armor to shine in all colors of the rainbow alternately.
However, unlocking this special color is no piece of cake and takes quite some time. The prerequisites are meant for engaged players who want more than just to complete the main story.
To unlock the rainbow pigment, you must complete all optional quests
The optional quests are divided into low rank and high rank. The low rank includes star levels 1 to 5. From star level 6 to 9, you are in the high rank quests, which are significantly more challenging but also promise better loot.
We have already compiled a complete list of all optional quests in Monster Hunter World for you.

However, it is worth completing the optional quests, as they often bring special rewards as well. With them, you can unlock more ingredients for the canteen or receive practical gadgets for your Palico.
Additionally, you need to have captured certain monsters once to receive the arena quests. The arena quests are part of the optional quests and are therefore necessary to obtain the rainbow pigment. For the high-rank quests, you should have caught the following monsters at least once:
- Pukei-Pukei
- Tobi-Kadachi
- Barroth
- Anjanath
- Rathian
- Pink Rathian
- Rathalos
- Azure Rathalos
- Paolumu
- Legiana
- Radobaan
- Uragaan
- Odogaron
- Diablos
- Black Diablos
The quest “The White Winds of the New World” unlocks the rainbow pigment
Once you have completed all these tasks, you should receive the special arena quest “The White Winds of the New World” with star level 9. This requires you to face Legiana, Dodogaron, Diablos, and a Rathalos in a tight 25 minutes.
If you have successfully completed these quests as well, you will receive the commission armor and can proudly show off your well-deserved rainbow color.
