Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is expected to soon have its Hardcore mode, and if you’ve played the predecessor, you know exactly what to expect. A relentless time in the world of the Middle Ages, where your life can end quickly.
What is the Hardcore mode? The Hardcore mode in Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a challenge for those who want more immersion. As in the predecessor, realism is emphasized. Your user interface is more limited, there is no fast travel, and battles are much more demanding, as it does not show where the enemy will strike next.
You might think that the Hardcore mode in Kingdom Come: Deliverance is one of the most difficult ever, as you can even die just before the actual start of your round.
“I scratched my hand and died from an infection”
How absurd is the Hardcore mode? Since the new Hardcore mode is not yet available, we refer to the predecessor. In this, the mode was so tough that players couldn’t even get through the startup screen without dying.
A Reddit user (via reddit.com) wondered whether it was normal to see different death screens even before the actual game started. The cause of his displayed death this time was unpopularity, which led the village to kill him.
Other users then joke about it and refer to other death screens that may appear:
- “I have one where I’m pretty sure it says that I died at birth.” – jono56667
- “In one case, I scratched my hand and died from an infection. One where I drowned. And one where I died at birth.” – Aarix_Tejeha
But there is a good reason why you die so often. As Reddit user Mukover describes, this is a joke by the developers. Life in medieval times was harsh. Many people died from things that are no longer issues today – especially concerning diseases and infections.
While the Hardcore mode in KCD 2 has not yet been released, it is very likely that this title will also feature the gimmick of death screens.
When will the Hardcore mode be released? According to GameStar, the Hardcore mode is set to come with Update 1.3. So far, however, it has not yet been released. According to the Steam page, the official mod support for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has been activated.
Through Steamworks, you can now modify and visually change your game save. A specific date for when Update 1.3 will appear is still unknown, except that March is targeted.
