From August 25 to 27, the gamescom 2021 took place, and like last year, it was mainly experienced digitally. We look back at the figures from the fair and look forward to the date next year.
How was the fair? Over 6 million viewers from over 180 countries followed this year’s Opening Night Live with Geoff Keighley. At the peak, nearly 2 million viewers were watching simultaneously. This corresponds roughly to the figures from 2020, which also took place digitally.
Many new trailers were shown and new information revealed during the Opening Night Live. We have summarized everything important here: All 42 new trailers and information from the Opening Night.
Highlights from the perspective of multiplayer fans included:
- New information about Call of Duty: Vanguard
- A trailer for Saints Row, which is set to be released in 2022
- New material for DokeV
- The announcement of the open beta for New World
- The new game Eville, which looks like Among Us in a fantasy world

As part of gamescom 2021, awards were also distributed again. Among the winners are Halo Infinite and Elden Ring.
What else happened? In addition to gamescom, the Xbox show took place beforehand, as well as the Future Games Show. Additional trailers and games were presented.
Fresh gameplay was showcased for Forza Horizon 5 and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt.
The gamescom 2022 has a date
When will the next gamescom take place? The gamescom 2022 will take place from August 24 to 28.
The official press release also states that the fair looks forward to seeing players “on-site in Cologne and not just digitally”. Whether the fair can again open up to crowds next year is not yet guaranteed at this time.
