What’s the deal with the first delivered PS5? On the afternoon of October 23, new tweets and reports came in almost minute by minute showing the first delivered boxes of Sony’s new next-gen console PlayStation 5 – in some cases even with complete accessories.
The launch of the PS5 in the first countries will not take place until November 12. In Europe, including Germany, even later on November 19. So who are the lucky ones?
Who exactly received a PS5 early? The delivered consoles are not an early regular delivery – “normal” players will still have to practice patience until the official launch dates.
The first next-gen consoles from Sony went to trade media and influencers – primarily in the US. From the well-known host Geoff Keighley to gaming sites like IGN to some lesser-known influencers, some visibly happy recipients were present.
Accompanying this were new advertisements. For instance, there was a new ad clip featuring US rapper Travis Scott.
FC Bayern star Robert Lewandowski also made headlines with a picture featuring a DualSense controller of the PS5 and simultaneously advertised the new console.
Are there new details about the PS5? No, not really. While there is a good look at the original packaging of the PS5 and some official accessories like headphones or camera, there apparently is still an embargo. So far, there is no unboxing video of the PS5. There are only minor teasers, none of which show the exact contents of the package.

How the community reacts: In the community, the reports of the first sent PS5 are received with mixed feelings. Many are looking forward to upcoming tests, unboxing videos, and potential new details about Sony’s next-gen console that should follow in the coming days or weeks.
Others are getting really hot and can hardly wait until they can finally unpack their pre-ordered PlayStation 5 and hold it in their hands and try it out.
Yet again, others are far from pleased. Some find it unfortunate that Sony prefers certain people due to their status but has still not concretely addressed the pre-order situation and the further availability of the PS5 that will truly affect many interested parties.
Because not everyone who wanted a PlayStation 5 has been able to secure one so far – despite now two waves of pre-orders. While the first can enjoy a PS5 or look forward with a secure pre-order to the launch, many others hope to acquire a PS5 either at launch or at least sometime this year.
The current situation regarding the availability of the PS5: Currently, the PS5 is completely sold out. And whether this will change in the near future is questionable.
For instance, Amazon and MediaMarkt have made it clear that they will not accept any more pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 anytime soon. It is uncertain whether the PS5 will be available at retail in Germany at launch, but current indications are not positive.
Although Sony mentioned in a tweet before the second wave of stock at the end of the year, it is unclear when exactly that will be or if it is still current – no official information has been released on this topic since then.
However, there are always rumors that both Sony and Microsoft may face supply difficulties for their next-gen consoles until spring 2021 due to COVID-19.
Many therefore wish for clear words from Sony. But currently, there is nothing to do but wait.
