Meanwhile, both PS5 and Xbox Series X controllers are known. But what do PS5 controllers and Xbox controllers offer? We will introduce both and compare them.
Meanwhile, both Microsoft for the Xbox Series X and Sony for the PlayStation 5 have officially presented the controller.
We show you both controllers and take a look at what they offer and how they differ.
Xbox Series X vs PS5 Controller – Design and Build
What does the design of the Xbox controller look like? The new Xbox controller is heavily inspired by the Xbox One controller:
- The design is black and simple, reminiscent of its predecessor.
- The XYAB buttons stand out with their colorful hues.
- The design remains asymmetrical: this means the two thumbsticks are not next to each other.
What does the design of the PS5 controller look like? The PS5 controller deviates from the design of the Dualshock 5:
- In contrast to its predecessor, a large part of the controller is kept in white and only the narrow bottom third is black. And that’s the biggest difference: until now, the classic Dualshock controller has always been a single color. But many fans also wish for other colors.
- The typical PlayStation symbol buttons are also in white.
- The thumbsticks are, like the Dualshock 4, symmetrically placed next to each other. The rest of the layout is also very similar to the arrangement of the buttons on the Dualshock 4.
Xbox Series X vs PS5 Controller – Price
How much do the controllers cost? Unfortunately, neither the price of the Xbox Series X controller nor that of the PS5 controller is currently known.
This also applies not only to the controller: even regarding the consoles themselves, Sony and Microsoft remain tight-lipped. However, we now know how much the consoles are worth to you.
Additionally, we have looked at what the consoles would cost if one were to build them as a PC:

PS5 vs Xbox Series X Controller – Battery
What kind of battery does the Xbox controller use? The controller of the Xbox Series X relies on replaceable batteries. Microsoft explained that they want to cater to the players and thus chose this solution.
What kind of battery does the PS5 controller use? The PS5 controller uses a built-in battery like the Dualshock 4. Sony promised that this one would be more durable and last longer than that of the Dualshock.
PS5 vs Xbox Series X Controller – Triggers
What triggers does the Xbox controller offer? The predecessor, the Xbox One controller, relied on so-called “Impulse Triggers.” Developers could, for example, program the triggers to vibrate when firing a weapon. However, Microsoft has not yet disclosed which technology is integrated into the triggers of the Xbox Series X controller.
What triggers does the PS5 controller offer? Sony states that adaptive triggers are built into the L2 and R2 buttons. How exactly these work and what developers can do with them has not yet been explained by Sony.
