With the Warlords expansion came some new skills to The Division 2. One of them is the Decoy. However, even if this may seem rather unspectacular at first glance, you should definitely give the skill a try. There is more to it than meets the eye.
What is the Decoy skill about? Recently, the Warlords expansion for The Division 2 went live. This not only brought numerous changes and new content to the game but also new skills.
But while the new Shock Trap or the returning Sticky Bomb are quite popular, the seemingly unremarkable Decoy skill (in English Decoy) is rarely played.
However, its use can definitely pay off. Because this new skill has more to it than one might suspect at first sight and from reading the description.
What does the Decoy do according to its description? The Decoy is essentially a kind of hologram pad. When thrown, it projects the image of an agent at the spot.
Officially, it is said that the distraction Decoy creates a lifelike projection that enemies perceive as a threat and draws their attention.
At first glance, this seems rather undramatic. But what many agents don’t know: In practice, the Decoy often proves to be very helpful – especially when you are out alone and lack survivability.
What can the Decoy really do? Because the Decoy not only draws the attention of enemies. It often draws barricaded enemies out of their cover. Furthermore, the hologram distracts enemy skills such as drones or turrets, as the projection usually draws their fire completely onto itself – even if you actively shoot at them.
In PvP, the Decoy even attracts the autoaim entirely to itself. If an enemy agent aims at you while you stand next to the Decoy, their crosshair will be pulled to the hologram.
For whom is the Decoy skill worthwhile? If you are playing solo, this skill can make your life easier in many situations – especially on higher difficulty levels.
Do you need to retreat to heal, or do you want to fall behind a hostile group or effectively flank them? The Decoy can work wonders in such situations.
But even in a group, you can effectively use the Decoy to decimate enemies undisturbed – especially when multiple Decoys are deployed simultaneously or in succession.
Especially if you focus your build on damage, the Decoy gives you the necessary window of time to quickly dispatch enemies without drawing attention to yourself and being shot at. Additionally, the skill can be used relatively frequently.
Keep in mind: How effective the Decoy is depends heavily on your skill tier.
How do you get the Decoy skill? You can only acquire the new skill with the new expansion Warlords of New York. In the campaign, you need to eliminate the Warlord and rogue Division agent Theo Parnell. From him, you will receive, among other things, the Decoy skill as a reward.
