The Division 2 gives agents a fifth specialization at the launch of Title Update 6 on October 15. We show you what the “Technician” can do and what strengths the new rocket launcher class brings.
What are specializations in The Division 2? The loot shooter The Division 2 aims not only to shine with a wide variety of weapons and gear but also to support agents’ play styles through RPG elements.
By unlocking the endgame content at level 30, players also gain access to specializations. Each of the currently four specializations comes with its own “super weapon” and a skill tree that holds additional passive and active abilities.
Currently, there are the following specializations:
- Sharpshooter with sniper rifle
- Survival Specialist with explosive crossbow bolts
- Demolition Expert with grenade launcher
- Gunner with minigun
The Technician is a high-tech support class
So what can the “Technician” do? The new support class has been referred to by the developers as the new “Shaman” in Division 2. Its abilities are designed to enhance friendly devices and teammates while holding back or directly eliminating enemy units.
Equipped with these tools:
- Multi-target rocket launcher P-017
- Artificer Hive
- EMP grenade
- Sidearm Maxim 9
How does the rocket launcher work? The new rocket launcher will particularly appeal to the pyro technicians among the agents. The tubes hold six rockets, and the multi-target system allows targeting up to six targets before the rocket launcher sends its devastating projectiles on their way.
In the “State of the Game” from October 9, at 25:50, you can see how the Technician targets enemies one by one and fires the rockets at high speed towards the enemies.
The individual impacts do not offer the damage of the explosive projectiles of the other specializations, but weaker enemy groups can be annihilated with a salvo of rockets.
The targeting system requires only fractions of a second to lock on to enemies, and the exploding rockets also cause area damage on impact.
The Drone Hive runs constantly
What does the “Artificer Hive” do? The new “Drone Hive” buffs the skills of friendly agents but also the technician’s own devices. The “Hive” comes with a helpful feature that hasn’t been in Division 2 before – the skill buff activates for the technician’s skills even when the “Hive” is hanging on the belt.
This means the second skill, in addition to the “Artificer Hive”, is always enhanced as long as the “Drone Hive” has a charge ready, even if the skill is not activated.
This is what the skill buff brings:
- More damage
- More healing
- Repair
- Duration is extended
What does the skill tree look like? “The Technician” is a real skill booster. Almost all of his passive talents from the skill tree strengthen skills or improve the use of skills.
These are the skills at maximum level:
- Amped
- +50% skill strength
- Rocket launcher skills
- Destroying enemy devices grants armor for the group.
- Repair kit skill
- Kit also counts for friendly devices within 10 meters.
- Maxim 9
- Sidearm with built-in silencer
- Faraday Field
- The Technician’s devices grant protection from shock and EMP within proximity (5 meters).
- Choice of two passive skill abilities
- Either +10% skill damage or healing
- Vital Protection
- +50% impulse immunity
- Technomancy
- Equipping a skill grants +15% bonus armor.
- If a skill is halted, 20% armor is repaired.
- Dismantling
- +20% damage to drones, robots, and skill helpers

The strength lies in the group
How is the “Technician” best employed? The strength of the Technician lies in supporting a group that relies heavily on skills. The technical specialist himself should also use a skill build to get the most out of the talents.
He prefers to fight from the second line while enhancing friendly devices with his skills. It is up to you whether you want to deal more damage with your own skills or take over the healing of the team.
The rocket launcher helps in situations of enemy superiority. Before a group of bloodthirsty bandits overruns your position, a few targeted rockets surprise the enemy mob and take down weaker enemies. For the stronger foes, a team member surely has some more effective projectiles handy, where the rocket launcher is less helpful.
Against the mercenary group “Black Tusk”, the class plays all its trump cards. With a Technician on the team, the highly technological enemies can hardly rely on their expensive equipment, losing a lot of effectiveness as a result. A good “Technician” should make the sometimes tough invasion missions a bit more pleasant.
Does Title Update 6 offer any other highlights? TU6 will be released simultaneously for all Division 2 players on October 15. The update will significantly change the players’ builds and brings new mechanics and many balance adjustments to the game.
In particular, the “Named Items” have great potential to help improve the rewards system, but also the new loot targeting sounds promising.
