Many fans are currently discussing: Currently, things are rather quiet in The Division 2. Many agents are waiting for new content and further improvements in the form of Title Update 5 as well as the Episode 1 DLCs.
Meanwhile, the community has once again raised the question of whether the contents of the paid Year 1 Pass for The Division 2 are worth their money and actually deliver what they promise.
What is included in the Year 1 Pass for The Division 2? The Year 1 Pass is paid and costs around 40 € when purchased separately. It can also be acquired together with the game in certain editions, making it cheaper.
The Year 1 Pass includes the following contents:
- 7 days of early access to all episodes in Year 1, which are released for free for all players.
- Immediate access to all 3 new specializations from Year 1 as soon as they are released – such as the Gunner. All other players must unlock these new specializations first.
- 8 Classified Assignments: 8 smaller secret missions that delve deeper into the fall of D.C.
- Exclusive cosmetic items
- Additional in-game activities, meaning one extra project per day and one extra bounty per week.
Discussion about the Year Pass – What fans are saying
What Year Pass supporters are saying: On one hand, there are many players who advocate for purchasing the Year 1 Pass, justifying it with the argument that you directly support the developers this way.
They believe the launch brought a great game with plenty of content and that they are now working hard and steadily to expand The Division 2 further in line with the wishes of the fans. This also incurs high costs, and buying the Year Pass would additionally support this work.
Some say they purchased the Year Pass right after the beta with that goal in mind, to support the developers, and not necessarily due to its content. Massive is taking a different route than many competitors and is essentially releasing all essential additional content for free for all players. Moreover, microtransactions in The Division 2 are said to be limited and fair. Many players want to reward such aspects with the additional purchase.
Others are happy because, for them, the new Gunner specialization was unlocked directly, and they could save themselves this tedious task. Many fans even jokingly say that alone was worth the Year Pass. The classified assignments are also well-received by some players. Ultimately, many players feel that they are getting enough in return from Massive for the additional 40 €.
What disappointed agents are saying: Many are also disappointed with the Year Pass for The Division 2 and clearly say that in their eyes, it is not worth the money.
Many are disappointed with the mini-missions in the form of classified assignments. The specialization quests still need to be played if one wants to obtain the corresponding cosmetics. The additional bounties and projects would not yield anything with the current loot anyway.
However, where many feel aggrieved is the early access to new content. This aspect was a decisive or even the main argument for many for the purchase. However, this is completely undermined by the test servers, making the pass nearly worthless for many – at least on PC.
Because every PC player has access to these servers and can test and try out most new content there beforehand for free – note that unlike Season Pass owners, they do not have to pay extra for it. Many feel cheated here. Ubisoft is no better than other publishers; they just found a better way to push this Year Pass on players. The associated content is not worth the 40 €.
Furthermore, many doubt that the extra revenue from the Year Pass actually supports the game or the developers in any direct way.
