Currently, Solo Leveling is available in all sorts of formats – whether it’s Webtoon, Manhwa, or Anime, the franchise is popular among many fans. The creator of the original web novel, Chugong, has now commented on his own work. He is dissatisfied with one thing.
What is Chugong dissatisfied with? Chugong conducted an interview with LitRes (translated by X user SoloLevelingGuy), a major audiobook service in Russia. In the dialogue, he answered several questions, such as about his favorite scene or his favorite character.
He revealed that his web novel is his favorite version of Solo Leveling. After all, it is the original, which is 100% authentic. Yet, there is one thing he would do differently if he had the chance to fully rewrite his work.
I consciously left out some scenes in Solo Leveling without detailed explanations – to give readers room for thought or simply to avoid dragging out the story. In retrospect, I feel that some moments may have remained somewhat unclear. If I were to rewrite Solo Leveling from scratch, I would like to formulate those parts of the story more clearly.
Unfortunately, Chugong does not elaborate on which parts he specifically means. Perhaps this could refer to the limits of the level system of protagonist Sung Jin-woo or the architect of the system.
Creator compares the sequel to Marvel
Would he change anything else? Solo Leveling Ragnarok is the direct sequel to the original work but is not directly authored by Chugong. Therefore, the author of the original story is considering whether he should write a sequel himself.
However, that does not mean he is dissatisfied with Ragnarok itself. Rather, he has a different perspective: he sees Ragnarok as a spin-off that was created for fan service. He was curious about how another author would write Solo Leveling. The story is part of Solo Leveling, but it is not a direct continuation of the main story.
Rather, Chugong sees Ragnarok as one of several possible scenarios of how the main story could continue. He compares it to the parallel universes from Marvel.
Otherwise, the creator of Solo Leveling seems to be satisfied with his work. He is particularly proud of the Red Gate Arc and protagonist Sung Jin-woo. Over the 10 years that the character has appeared in various media, he has grown fond of Chugong.
It is, therefore, possible that Solo Leveling will still receive an official continuation. That could then be released as an anime. However, fans still need to wait for Season 3.
