In WoW: Classic, you can now fight against the Lich King again. One of the best raids of all time opens – with an explosive trailer.
In WoW: WotLK Classic, a very special time has begun, as the raid “Icecrown Citadel” is finally available – along with the battle against the Lich King Arthas and the numerous bosses that need to be cleared out first.
Blizzard celebrates this with a pretty awesome trailer that has received nothing but positive feedback from fans – even though the actual game doesn’t look nearly as detailed.
What does the video show? The trailer is a pretty cinematic portrayal of the raid “Icecrown Citadel”, which is the last (real) raid in Wrath of the Lich King. At the end of the raid, the Lich King Arthas Menethil awaits players to finally complete the story that began with Warcraft III.
The battle against the Lich King is still considered one of the best fights ever. This is due not only to the mechanics but also to the story during the fight. Arthas reveals his plans that he lured all the heroes in to transform them into undead servants of the Scourge. In fact, all heroes die during the fight and are on the verge of being resurrected into undeath – and only the intervention of the Light through Tirion Fordring and the soul of Arthas’ father prevents this fate.
Additionally, the fight against Arthas was the first raid boss that was rewarded with an in-game cinematic at the end.
Who created the trailer? For several years now, Hurricane has obviously been working for Blizzard, as he has created several trailers that ended up on the official Warcraft channels – including trailers for various PvP or dungeon tournaments. He also created a video for the Black Temple.
However, Hurricane was already known before that, as he previously created cinematics and video trailers – but back then for illegal WoW private servers, which have largely disappeared or been shut down with the rise of “WoW Classic”.
