The Korea MMORPG Lost Ark finally launched in Europe and North America on Friday. But judging by the reviews on Steam, the online role-playing game is only a mediocre 3. Out of nearly 30,000 reviews, only 68% are positive.
This is the situation:
- Lost Ark is regarded as a high-production quality MMORPG that has been excellently further developed since its launch in South Korea in 2019, enriched with new classes, raids, and continents.
- Since the release of Black Desert (2016), it is the first renowned MMORPG on PC worldwide that has truly established itself. Other than that, mainly mobile titles dominate the market in Asia and thus the global MMORPG market, as no MMORPGs have been released in the West since 2014 – except for New World, whose long-term success is still to be awaited.
- Although the MMORPG Lost Ark has broken many records on Steam and Twitch, the Steam reviews after the launch weekend are rather mixed.
Almost 30,000 Steam Reviews – only 68 % positive: A solid 3
What are the Steam reviews like? On Steam, Lost Ark now has 29,185 reviews in German and English, a total of 46,433 reviews. Of the nearly 30,000 reviews, 68% are positive – by a school grade, that would be a solid 3.
Why does the best MMORPG in 6 years only get a 3? The ratings are heavily influenced by the Amazon phenomenon: it is not the product that is evaluated, but the delivery. And the delivery is problematic for the MMORPG that is actually released in the West by Amazon.
The negative reviews mainly complain that testers could not play the MMORPG at the stated times because the servers were overloaded and they were stuck in queues.
Players are especially annoyedif they bought a Founder Pack to play the MMORPG early – which was not always possible due to the overloaded servers.
However, many of the negative reviews admit that the game is “great” or “really good.” But “Amazon Game Services” is criticized repeatedly. Players apparently experience flashbacks to the launch of New World, which suffered from similar problems.
What is praised in the MMO? The people who praise the MMO say things like
- “I’ve waited 10 years for this. It’s exactly as I imagined it. I’m incredibly hyped.”
As is usual on Steam, there are also some ironic comments:
- “I like the quests where you pick things up and put them back down.”
- “Talk to this one, talk to that one. Kill this, collect that.”
And the queue can be nicely fantasized about as well:
- “Queue of 26,890. Waiting time until playing 6-8 hours. The animations of the ships and the seagulls are a dream. The cries of the seagulls, best sound ever.”
- “Now I finally have time to clean my apartment, cook food, do laundry, visit my grandparents, take my dog out, and spend time with my girlfriend. She is very grateful to me for this. Thank you, Amazon!”
But maybe Amazon will still get the problem under control – and the dog, girlfriend, and the cleanliness of the apartment will suffer again:
