Guild Wars 2 – A Treat for Collectors and Explorers
Genre: MMORPG | Developer: ArenaNet | Platform: PC | Release Date: August 28, 2012| Model: Base game Free2Play, item shop and real-money currency, add-ons cost | Combat System: Hybrid action combat system – a mix of action and fixed, static targets
That’s why you should play Guild Wars 2
Ideal for: Players who have had enough of classic MMORPGs, as Guild Wars 2 breaks many conventions. The combat system is more action-oriented than the classic tab-targeting, the quest system is dynamic, and the roles of the classes are flexible.
For explorers who want to dive deep into a vibrant world, discover it, and casually play along with others, Guild Wars 2 offers a lot.
Much is happening dynamically in the world. Tasks suddenly appear at certain locations, and groups are formed automatically. And if you like to collect all sorts of things, enjoy platforming elements, and want to earn various achievements, you should definitely check out Guild Wars 2.
Another important point is the separation between PvP and PvE. If you wish, you can participate only in the PvP content of the game and vice versa. Due to the normalized equipment and level scaling in PvP, it is all about your own skill there as well.
It is even considered one of the best PvP MMOs, as it offers both large-scale battles between factions and structured PvP in the form of battlegrounds.
Is there a catch? The only drawback is the lack of new content in the endgame, which is currently a burden for the game. When you first enter the game, you will find almost overwhelming things to do. However, after you have completed these tasks after several hundred hours, not much remains.
For players in the endgame, the lack of new, good content is the biggest problem, which has been ongoing since 2020 and hopefully will be resolved by the major expansion End of Dragons, which is set to release in February 2022.
What is Guild Wars 2? Guild Wars 2 is the successor to the legendary Guild Wars, but the gameplay could hardly be more different between the two games. On the one hand, we fight in the successor with an action combat system (with targeting), and on the other hand, Guild Wars 2 does not follow the classic MMORPG path of quests and quest givers.
Instead, dynamic events constantly happen in the game world, where any number of players can participate and receive more or less lucrative rewards depending on their performance.
This makes the game world lively, and there’s always something to do and experience. However, not only with quests does Guild Wars 2 take new paths. The typical holy trinity of online RPGs, namely tank, damage dealer, and healer, is present in Guild Wars 2 but is not strictly necessary.
Each class can sustain itself, and only in raids is a division into healers, tanks, and damage dealers necessary. However, due to the elite specializations of the classes, these roles can be taken on by almost any character. One of the most popular and best tanks is even a class that wears light armor.
The Features of Guild Wars 2
This is the atmosphere: When it comes to atmosphere, hardly any game can compete with Guild Wars 2. The game world is lovingly crafted and full of beloved characters that appear repeatedly and drive the story forward.
The story of Guild Wars 2, by the way, is not just a decorative addition but the engine of the entire game and the focal point of the expansions Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire.
The so-called Living Story continues to unfold, and every few weeks a new episode is released for free (only for those who have played the previous episode), which continues the story. There are also significant story moments in the two addons.
At the same time, the world is always changing, for example, as disgusting water creatures build a huge tower in a lake or the attack of a mastermind completely destroys a capital in the game! Such consequences make the world of Guild Wars 2 exciting and thrilling time and again.
This is what the addons contain: Guild Wars 2 now has two major expansions: Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire. Heart of Thorns introduced a large jungle area as well as a new progression system. You could learn various new skills in the jungle and then use a glider to sail, bounce on mushrooms, or crawl through musty tunnels in the jungle floor. Additionally, the Reaper class was added as the 9th class to the game.
Path of Fire brought an epic story about gods and dragons as well as the continent Elona, known from Guild Wars 1. There, you could finally obtain mounts and unlock new ways of transportation. These included, among others, jumping raptors, hopping hares, teleporting jackals, or floating rays. Path of Fire also brought new classes back to Guild Wars 2.
You can also use the features of both expansions in the world of the base game, which makes many aspects of the world easier for you.
The cost of Guild Wars 2: The base game is now available for free. The expansion “Path of Fire” must be purchased separately, but it also automatically includes “Heart of Thorns”. There are no monthly fees.
Guild Wars 2 is thus situated between a “Free2Play and Buy2Play” model. It should be seen as a “Buy2Play” game with a very generous trial phase, as one can hardly participate in the latest content in the endgame without the expansions.
