Rank 4: Battle for Azeroth
Yes, I know. With this ranking, some will raise their eyebrows in surprise. After all, there is currently a lot of negative (and quite justified) media coverage of the current expansion. Many systems are in disarray or unpopular. The community is disappointed, and improvements are slow to come.
Nevertheless, I had a lot of fun in World of Warcraft in the last weeks and months, and especially enjoyed questing and running “Mythic+” dungeons. The story and visuals of the areas are by far the best World of Warcraft has ever offered. I had never cried before during a WoW in-game cinematic, but the ending of the Jaina questline made me do so.
Unlike many other players, I really like the story regarding Sylvanas, who “finally turns it up”. I like that the Forsaken finally fulfill their intended role and live out their dark, calculating nature under the Banshee Queen.
The only real downside for me is the long-term motivation, where Battle for Azeroth currently struggles. It often happens that I do not “play WOW all evening long” as I used to enjoy doing. But the time I spend in the game is still enjoyable for me.
Therefore, Battle for Azeroth ranks 4th for me.
The highlight from Battle for Azeroth: The story surrounding Jaina. If a video game can make me feel emotional and stare at the screen with a satisfied smile, then it has done something incredibly right – no matter what other flaws it may have.
