Project TL aka Lineage Eternal – the next big hit?
This is Project TL (PC): This is an action MMORPG from South Korea by NCSoft. It is supposed to lead the glorious franchise “Lineage” into the new age. The game was once known as Lineage Eternal and is essentially a Lineage 3. It is to become a “full-featured” MMORPG with an isometric perspective that we know from Diablo.
This is how the development has been so far: It was quite wild. Originally, “Lineage Eternal” was supposed to be a hybrid of PC MMORPG and mobile game. The future of the Korean giant NCSoft was essentially dependent on this game, or so it was thought, until they made a fortune with the mobile game “Lineage M” in 2017.
Lineage Eternal was already announced and was close to a worldwide release in 2017. But then they completely overturned it, changed the engine, exchanged the leadership team, and now it is supposed to become a PC MMORPG.
It is supposed to be released in 2019 – but we still know almost nothing about the new “Project TL” and how far it differs from the old Lineage Eternal.
This is Project TL at its best: The game of a MMORPG studio with more than 20 years of experience on how to do it, and a huge budget thanks to the mobile hit “Lineage M.”
The Lineage franchise is NCSoft’s crown jewel: here one could indeed expect a global hit that fully aims at the mainstream. If everything works out.
This is Project TL at its worst: The game has lingered too long in “development hell” and has undergone such a direction change that anything is possible. It is the big mystery box of 2019.
This is planned for 2019: The game is supposed to be released in 2019. It is even possible that it quickly comes to Europe and North America, and perhaps even for PS4. NCSoft is in a strange situation: they have a lot of money, many projects underway also for PC and consoles.
Allegedly, the head of NCSoft USA, Yong Songyee, is a genius and has been working from California since 2014 on a strategy for the West and the world.
But they have not revealed anything yet. They have not laid their cards on the table for 2019 in this area. Perhaps Project TL will be the next big thing.
