What is Godfall? Not much is known about Godfall yet. It is an online game where you cooperatively complete missions with friends to experience a story that takes place after an apocalypse. Additionally, you can find better loot.
Godfall will be a launch title for the Playstation 5, but will also be released for PC.
According to initial information and videos, Godfall seems to give the impression of a fantasy Destiny with a hint of Warframe and Diablo. You will be playing in pairs or threes, but can also experience the story in single-player mode. During missions, you collect legendary weapons and armor.
Godfall differentiates itself from Destiny not only through its fantasy scenario. Unlike Bungie’s loot shooter, the action in Godfall takes place in fast melee combat, which is experienced in third-person perspective.
Godfall is being developed by Counterplay. The studio employs designers who have previously worked on games like Destiny 2, Diablo 3, Evolve, and Overwatch. This gives hope that exciting multiplayer action awaits us.
Destiny in a Fantasy World?
What is the development story so far? Godfall was unexpectedly announced during the Game Awards 2019 in December. The trailer created excitement for more and immediately gave the impression of a Destiny in a fantasy world. However, instead of using guns, you fight with swords, which seems quite interesting.
A leaked gameplay trailer even reinforces this impression.
Anything could still happen
What is Godfall at best? We could genuinely expect a kind of new Destiny that would be fresh and new due to its fantasy and melee-focused approach. If the developers deliver regular content and host interesting events, then a strong game could emerge here.
What is Godfall at worst? Without sufficient content, regular updates, and gameplay that truly captivates, Godfall could quickly fade into obscurity and just become another multiplayer action game among many.
However, the interest in the game has been piqued, now both the publisher Gearbox and developer Counterplay must seize this opportunity and truly do something with it.
