This is not always easy to assess, as marketing costs, tax savings, or funds are not always transparent. However, if a film does not earn back almost double, it can be considered a flop, as marketing is extremely costly.

- How big are the actors or directors behind the film?
- How high were the expectations based on predecessors?

1. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Mad Max: Fury Road is considered one of the best action films of the 2010s. The brutal vehicle battles, impressive effects, and good acting performances contributed to such a reputation. 9 years later, Miller wanted to repeat that with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
Although the film earned almost a proud 174 million USD, it is considered a flop because it barely recouped its budget. With The Fall Guy, that was not the only action flop in May 2024. And that despite the reviews being quite good.

- Too expensive for a franchise that is not as big as others
- Furiosa as a character is not interesting enough
- Prequels often have a harder time than sequels
- A week prior, an action film called Godzilla x Kong performed quite well at the box office
