Call of Duty 2022
Genre: Shooter | Developer: Infinity Ward | Publisher: Activision | Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One | Release Date: Late 2022
What kind of game is this? Officially, little has been confirmed so far about the new CoD in 2022. However, there are many leaks and rumors that are considered fairly reliable. Accordingly, another CoD game is set to be released in 2022, even though the annual CoD releases will end after that.
So far, we know that the new CoD will likely be the successor to Modern Warfare from 2019. The title “Modern Warfare II” is considered promising. Once again, Infinity Ward is expected to be the studio behind it. According to leaker Tom Henderson, it is supposed to be released as early as October 2022.
The setting will reportedly involve a drug war among Colombian drug cartels.
What are the special features? According to the leaks and rumors so far, the new Call of Duty will offer player choices in the story campaign. Depending on what you as a player do, the plot will unfold differently.
There is also supposed to be a noticeable improvement in enemy AI. Perhaps the days of the notoriously dumb shooting gallery AI that CoD games are infamous for are finally over.
Anyone who was looking forward to particularly dumb zombies might be disappointed. The new CoD is not supposed to have a mode with smelly undead and quirky co-op action.
Instead, there is supposed to be a completely new multiplayer mode called “DMZ”. This stands for “Demilitarized Zone”. The mode is expected to draw inspiration from the popular hardcore shooter “Escape from Tarkov” or from the ill-fated Hazard Zone from Battlefield 2042.
You start in a DMZ match at a point on a large map. From there, you must fight your way to an exit. Players and NPC enemies will try to prevent that. About 25 to 30 players will be running around per map.
There will also be smaller RPG mechanics that provide you with a certain progression with each survived match. However, upon death, you will lose certain items, such as collected gear.
Some leakers also claim to have seen early alpha gameplay. The speed in the game was said to be somewhat faster compared to the predecessors.
In the multiplayer mode, an expanded version of Search and Destroy is expected. This will be called “Attackers vs. Defenders” and will head more in the direction of Counter-Strike. It will also be possible to revive teammates and set traps.
Who should play it? As usual, a new CoD game is primarily aimed at franchise fans who eagerly await their beloved shooter series every year. So, if you want to experience the typical CoD feeling, 2022 should provide it once again.
Additionally, there are other elements that could attract new players, such as fans of Tarkov or Counter-Strike, who should have fun in the new game modes.
