We have selected 26 free games from different genres for you and present them here. Some of the games may be a few years old, but each one is still very popular in 2023 and has mostly positive ratings among the free-to-play titles.
How did we select? The games we present here are personal recommendations from the editors and authors of MeinMMO. Most of them are online games with multiplayer, but you can also play some solo or in co-op.
We made sure to cover a broad range of genres: From MMORPGs to battle royale shooters to platform brawlers, there is something for everyone.

Dauntless
What is Dauntless? In Dauntless, you take on the role of a Slayer and embark on a monster hunt in a world made up of floating islands. These monsters are known as Behemoths, and they threaten to consume the world with their hunger. Once you have slain a Behemoth, you can forge new weapons and gear from its parts. The game offers cooperative multiplayer action that allows you to face the Behemoths alone or in teams.
Dauntless may game-play-wise lean towards Monster Hunter, but it remains significantly more beginner-friendly in terms of depth and monster variety. However, this does not make Dauntless any less fun and it enjoys an active and large community.

What is Fortnite? Fortnite is the most popular battle royale shooter in recent years. Originally, the game was intended as a paid PvE survival game, but the free battle royale mode enjoyed explosive popularity. 100 players fight against each other alone or in small teams of up to four players in an ever-shrinking area, everyone against everyone. Whoever survives last wins the round. A special aspect of Fortnite is collecting materials in the form of wood, stone, and metal. These can be used to build various structures, adding a deeper, tactical layer to the shooter.
Now there are several different main modes in Fortnite, such as a no-build mode, party sandboxes, or even custom versions of Among Us. You can also create your own game modes and invite other players. Additionally, regular new events and updates keep the game fresh.

Apex Legends
What is Apex Legends? Apex Legends takes place in the Titanfall universe and joins the ranks of battle royale shooters. Together with two teammates, you jump into an area and fight against 19 other teams of three until only one team remains. The playable area shrinks during a match. At the start of each new game, you choose one character (“Legend”) from over 20 different characters with unique abilities. Along the way, you’ll find various futuristic weapons and tools. With regular new seasons, new content also comes into play that you can unlock. While you will need to pay real money for cosmetics and battle passes, these do not provide any gameplay advantages.

What is Path of Exile? Path of Exile is an action RPG and one of the best alternatives to the Diablo series. As an outcast, you awaken on the shores of Wraeclast, a continent that serves as a penal colony for criminals. Regardless of the reasons for your banishment, you must now face the ruthless wilderness and its dangerous inhabitants. You fight your way through the crumbling ruins and bloody secrets of the Eternal Empire or the Vaal civilization.
At the beginning of the game, you choose one of 6 starting classes for your character, such as Marauder, Witch, or Ranger. With these classes, you can slay hordes of enemies in classic hack-and-slash fashion, using a variety of different weapons and magic. Along the way, you collect gear and upgrades. With this and a massive skill tree, you can shape your character to your liking.
