The professional guilds Echo and Liquid faced each other for the first time in Tarisland. Instead of a battle for the best time, the viewers got to see something else.
What kind of competition is this? The two best guilds from World of Warcraft, Liquid and Echo, were challenged to a competition by Tarisland. On July 1, 2024, the teams from both guilds faced each other for the first time.
The goal was to defeat the raid boss Synthesedoktor as quickly as possible on the “Elite Challengemode” difficulty level. The winner was the one who took the shortest time to defeat the boss within a two-hour time frame. It was therefore not a kill race as is typical for the genre, but a speedrun competition.
However, instead of outdoing each other with better times, both teams disappointed their fans in the competition.

Two hours without results
How did the competition go for the teams? The teams from Liquid and Echo started on Monday evening at 9:00 PM to face the Synthesedoktor for two hours. The raid had only been released that day at 12:00 PM and accordingly had not been available for long to practice strategies.
The first attempts from the groups already showed that the main goal was to manage the boss at all. The teams tried various strategies, used different buffs, and everything they could think of. However, even after two hours, no team was able to defeat the boss. The competition ended in a draw.
The Liquid team had the better attempt and managed to defeat the boss shortly after the competition ended, but for the tournament, Monday night ended in a tie.
What kind of boss is this? Although the raids in Tarisland have several bosses, they are all individually instantiated and are unlocked gradually. One could also say that each boss stands alone.
The Synthesedoktor is the first boss of the competition between Liquid and Echo. The two last bosses of the “Root of Corrosion” raid will also be tackled by the teams. The next competition will take place on July 4. Then, the two teams will face the forest twins.
Why are the bosses so difficult? The developers of Tarisland have repeatedly asked for feedback during their tests. Many players complained about the easy difficulty levels in dungeons and raids. The developers therefore decided to design the “Challengemode” difficulty level.
In this mode, the bosses not only have more health and deal more damage, but they also have additional mechanics such as attacks or abilities that make the boss fight more challenging for players.
