Our place 1 should not surprise anyone. But who else should be the most dangerous creature in The Lord of the Rings? Sauron is behind the creation of the One Ring, he betrayed the free peoples of Middle-earth and waged wars from his realm in Mordor.
Numerous races, such as orcs or trolls, are under his command. At the time of The Lord of the Rings, Sauron may not have a physical form, but that does not make him less dangerous. From his tower, he watches the lands, and nothing seems to escape his notice. He gives his orders without regard for the losses and orchestrates all evil.
Only because of him is the Fellowship formed, and all the events that follow somehow relate to Sauron and his existence. Only when this great and overpowering enemy is defeated can the wars of the Ring end. With the destruction of the One Ring, Sauron is also destroyed – at least it seems so. Whether he truly disappears is still debated.
