The Giant Space Hamster is one of the most absurd yet lovable creatures, originally from the Spelljammer setting. These gigantic, plush rodents are exactly what their name promises: hamster-like creatures the size of an ox that live in space environments. They are usually peaceful, but when provoked, they can bite with surprising force.
Particularly famous is the miniature version “Boo,” the loyal companion of the Rashemi barbarian Minsc from, for example, Baldur’s Gate 3, who refers to himself as a “miniature giant space hamster.” These small variants of space hamsters have been shrunk by wizards. Other magically altered variants can breathe fire, for example. So beware, even if you encounter a small version – they aim straight for your eyes.
