These friendly, jellyfish-like creatures are also found in the Underdark. They are one of the very few friendly species you can encounter there. To move, they expel gases that create a sound that gives them their name.
They communicate telepathically and can sense emotions. Additionally, they have a strong aversion to evil thoughts. This is particularly critical as they feed on psychic energies in harmless amounts and therefore often stay near creatures with psionic magic.
This often brings them into dangerous predicaments involving mind flayers and similarly evil beings. However, they gladly assist friendly adventurers at any time. How helpful this support is can certainly be debated. They may cook you Underdark delicacies, perform a psychic song or “scent poem,” or shower you with encouragement and praise.
Sometimes they also take care of injured adventurers, show you locations of magical items, or guide you to the lairs of wicked beings.
