World of Warcraft is full of great secrets. We show you the biggest and most complex puzzles, their rewards, and how to solve them.
Over the years, World of Warcraft has become quite large. However, it has only been in the last three years that developers have begun to hide increasingly longer and larger puzzles in the game world on a large scale. Here, we want to introduce you to the trickiest and most time-consuming of these puzzles and reveal what rewards await at the end.
By the way, this is also the perfect pastime to kill the last weeks until the release of the new expansion Shadowlands. Because when else do you have so much time to catch up on these tasks?
The Hivemind
Required number of players: 5
Time investment: Several hours
Puzzle difficulty: Extreme
The Hivemind may be the undeniable king among the puzzles in World of Warcraft. After all, not only is the puzzle itself incredibly complex and requires the precise coordination of 5 players, but the mount is also special.
The Hivemind actually remembers with which teammates you completed the puzzle. All participating players can then jump into one of the “brain mounts” together and experience adventures together. This is the only mount of its kind available in the game so far.
If you want to get the mount with your friends, you should bring a lot of patience. Even experienced groups need several hours for the whole process, as just the initial steps can take a lot of time. But those who want such an exclusive mount will have to put in some effort.
The Cat Jenafur
Required number of players: 1
Time investment: 30 minutes
Puzzle difficulty: Medium
Jenafur was only deciphered a few days ago. The cat managed to evade players for almost a year because the puzzle is quite tricky.
Although the puzzle consists of only a total of three steps and can be solved within a few minutes if you know the guide, the path to the solution was tough. Players had to solve a complex music puzzle. Various items in a dungeon had to be looted and placed in the correct order within a very short time so that the objects were readable like notes. Only then does the enlightening music play, and the creepy cat Jenafur appears.
However, once you know the solution, the puzzle is very simple – finding the solution on your own is (almost) impossible.
The Waist of Time
Required number of players: 1
Time investment: Several hours
Puzzle difficulty: Extreme
If you enjoy the game, then you can’t call it a waste of time. Right?
Basically, that’s true, but the beautiful Waist of Time belt really puts this rule to the test. To become the owner of the cool belt that displays a golden clock that spins continuously, one must complete a lengthy puzzle that consists of a proud 30 steps.
The first 20 steps only involve clicking different very small objects in the game world in the correct order. Just traveling around to reach these items is likely to take a good two hours.
After all, this is a belt that only a few players own, making it a nice addition to your transmog collection. If you want to take on the long journey, you can find the guide to the Waist of Time here.
Lucid Nightmare
Required number of players: 1
Time investment: Several hours
Puzzle difficulty: Extreme
Everyone loves unicorns. But what about black nightmare unicorns? Yes, of course, those are even more liked. If you want this Lucid Nightmare, you must face one of Azeroth’s toughest puzzles.
The puzzle starts as a simple scavenger hunt but then has several stations with tricky tasks.
Especially the second-to-last step, which leads players into the “Endless Halls”, has caused many a character to despair. This is a (seemingly) endless dungeon with countless rooms where players must transport objects from A to B. As if that weren’t bad enough, creating a map is complicated, as some rooms in the dungeon simply teleport the player to another location.
Some characters have spent 12 hours or more in this dungeon – logging out and taking a break is not allowed, as this part of the puzzle resets.
But what wouldn’t one do for a black unicorn that learns to fly in Shadowlands?
The Riddler’s Mind Worm
Required number of players: 1
Time investment: about an hour
Puzzle difficulty: Medium
The puzzle to obtain the Riddler’s Mind Worm is among the easier ones in World of Warcraft.
Basically, it is just a large-scale scavenger hunt in which players need to find eight different pages. The pages always give a small hint of where the next page can be found.
The entire journey can easily be completed in an hour; there are no major hurdles here. The difficulty only lay in locating the pages, but the secret-finding community with several hundred members has completed this task in no time.
If you want to secure the little worm for yourself, you can view our guide for it here.
Mount Fabious
Required number of players: 1
Time investment: variable
Puzzle difficulty: Low
Some puzzles are not as complicated as they seem at first glance. When the mount Fabious was implemented with Patch 8.2, the puzzle community was curious about how to obtain it.
Shortly thereafter, the mount was found, as it appears every few hours in Nazjatar at various positions, swims around a bit, and then disappears again. However, you cannot attack and loot Fabious – instead, you have to use another trick.
Fabious is quite photogenic and enjoys being photographed. If you pull out your SELFIE camera and take a picture with Fabious, you will have the seahorse added to your inventory. The waiting time for this mount is the biggest problem. Because if you happen to be “AFK for a moment” at the wrong time, you might miss the big moment…
Creepy Pet Baa’l
Required number of players: 1-2
Time investment: Several hours
Puzzle difficulty: Hard
For pet collectors, no distance is too far and no mission too difficult. However, the demon goat Baa’l puts this rule to the test. The puzzle starts off quite simply, as you only need to click on a scroll in the open world. After that, it gets extremely tricky. Overall, you need to click on 13 small pebbles in the game world. These are often in well-hidden locations and so small that clicking them is hardly possible. If you’re not fond of a lot of “fiddling around” with the mouse and have a short fuse, you should better stay away from this.
However, if you take on this challenge, you will be rewarded with a very special battle pet that not only looks cool but also has devastating attacks that deal percentage damage.
At least: Since players can fly in Battle for Azeroth, many steps of this puzzle have become simpler. Our guide shows you how to secure Baa’l.
However, keep in mind that you must have already solved the puzzle surrounding Uuna for Baa’l, as the little girl is necessary for the final step.
Creepy “Pet” Uuna
Required number of players: 1
Time investment: 2-4 hours
Puzzle difficulty: Medium
Uuna was the first puzzle that caused an audible “Uff” through the community, as the story is quite dark. After all, Uuna is the soul of a deceased Draenei girl. Having such a being as a “pet” was considered quite macabre by some players.
However, this changed when Blizzard expanded the puzzle surrounding Uuna and turned it into a small, hidden quest line. Gradually, you can make Uuna’s tortured soul happy and give her a bit of the joy she never had in life.
If you undertake this journey, you will be rewarded with one of the most interesting companions ever, even though she does not act as a “combat pet”.
Young Sun Darter
Required number of players: 1
Time investment: Several hours
Puzzle difficulty: Hard
When Blizzard created the puzzle for the Young Sun Darter, some developer must have rubbed their hands with glee because of the mischief. Because fundamentally, the puzzle is simple and limited to one place, namely a hidden cave.
However, within the cave, there are numerous blockages that can only be overcome if players possess the correct items and use them in the right order. Among other things, potions are needed that haven’t had a useful purpose in the game for over 10 years.
It is worth creating a long shopping list before starting the puzzle and buying all the items mentioned in the guide. Because then the puzzle can be completed in a matter of minutes. However, if you still need to farm the individual items, the duration increases drastically…
Long Forgotten Hippogryph
Required number of players: 1
Time investment: Several hours
Puzzle difficulty: Easy
For many years, a purple hippogryph was present in the files of World of Warcraft but could not be found by players. However, this changed with Legion, as the developers implemented a way to obtain exactly this mount.
The puzzle is quite simple, as you only need to “click” a series of crystals scattered throughout Azsuna. If you manage to click all 5 crystals, the mount goes directly into your inventory. Our demon Cortyn even helped solve the puzzle for the first time.
However, finding the crystals is not that easy, as they have dozens of different spawn points and are not particularly large. With a flying mount, the puzzle can be completed relatively quickly.
Another difficulty: Only one player can obtain the mount, after which the crystals disappear for several hours. So, one must be alert or simply wait for a night when few other players are present.
Which of these puzzles do you find the coolest? What is the best reward that you can get through these puzzles?
