The streamer Turner “Tfue” Tenney (Fortnite) was apparently swatted during a live stream on Twitch. Suddenly, someone was in the house, shouting: “Come out with your hands up”.
This is what happened: The streamer was live on Twitch playing a round of Minecraft. Suddenly, a voice was heard in the house shouting: “Come out with your hands up!”
Tfue stood up and ran out of the room. He shouted back, “I have my hands up.”
The streamer was apparently swatted. However, it is not entirely clear, as Tfue has not commented on the incident yet and remained silent afterwards.
Video shows swatting of Tfue
This is the clip: We are embedding a YouTube video here that shows the whole incident:
In the clip, initially, someone can be heard shouting: “Here is the Police Department.” Tfue stands up and for a while, loud footsteps and doors slamming can be heard. About two minutes later, Tfue returned to his screens.
The streamer smiles awkwardly and sighs. However, he does not comment on the situation. Shortly after, he started another round in Minecraft.
Things become particularly bizarre when he receives a donation from a viewer. It includes the message: “You were swatted from a Discord server.” Tfue responds, “Cool, you really got me” and seems unimpressed.
Was this a real swatting? This is not entirely clear. The streamer reacts quite calmly when the police suddenly appear in the house. Even after the police action, Tfue says nothing about the situation and continues to play undisturbed shortly after.
Nevertheless, it is quite possible that viewers played a cruel joke here. It is not the first time that streamers have fallen victim to such a prank:
Tfue’s reaction could be interpreted as him not wanting to give the swatter the satisfaction of reacting visibly, thereby making it clear: This does not affect me. Don’t even try it on me.
What is swatting anyway? In swatting, an unknown person calls the police and reports a crime at a streamer’s address. The police then respond because they expect a crime to be occurring at the address that they need to stop. The affected streamer is usually surprised by the police and is visibly shocked.
Swatting is illegal and highly dangerous. In the past, a person has already lost their life in such an incident.
How severe the penalty can be is illustrated by a conviction of a 19-year-old:
19-year-old sentenced to 15 months in prison, 2 years without gaming – Due to swatting
