TFT: The 3 best champion comps in patch 9.24 – How to play them

TFT: The 3 best champion comps in patch 9.24 – How to play them

Patch 9.24 has nerfed the Mage and Ocean Champions in Teamfight Tactics while buffing the Berserkers. Therefore, we present the best combos of the current meta.

Update March 17, 2020: Since then, Set 3 has been released. Accordingly, we have created a new article with 2 strong champion combos for the start of the set.

What are these comps? The three selected combos are currently among the strongest in TFT. They all benefit from the current patch 9.24.

We will introduce these three champion comps to you in more detail:

  • Berserker, Blitz, Ice being
  • Swordsman, Assassin, Steel, Cloud, Mystic
  • Summoner, Assassins, Ocean, Mystic

The selected comps are based on personal experience, watched streams, and the tier list from TFTeacher.

Who is the champion of the hour? Although 3 new champions have been introduced with the new update, an old champion remains the hero of the meta: Zed.

He is theoretically usable in all three combos and is generally a good all-rounder. He also leads to curious game situations.

Berserker, Blitz, Eiswesen

Which champions does the combo use? This new combo benefits from the slight buff to the Berserker and Blitz champions from patch 9.24. The core consists of:

  • Renekton – Desert/Berserker
  • Sion – Shadow/Berserker
  • Mundo – Poison/Berserker
  • Jax – Light/Berserker
  • Olaf – Ice being/Berserker
  • Volibear – Ice being/Blitz/Berserker

Completing the build are:

  • Ornn – Blitz/Guardian
  • Zed – Blitz/Assassin/Summoner
Via LoLChess

These attributes are used by the combo:

  • 6x Berserker
  • 3x Blitz
  • 2x Ice being

Which items does the combo need? The combo requires no spatula or other items to function. That is one of its great strengths. However, useful items include:

  • Volibear – Amulet of the Iron Solari x2 or even x3
  • Olaf – Bloodthirster, Infinity Edge, Rapid Firecannon
  • Zed – Guardian Angel, Dragon Claw, Release Blow
TFT-volibear-LoL

How does early game go? The good thing about the combo is that you can collect the right champions from the very beginning. With the buff to the Blitz champions, Ornn and Volibear are the best choices in early game.

You will also quickly find the first Berserkers, Renekton and Jax.

A good addition is Braum, who as Ice being/Guardian harmonizes excellently with Ornn and Volibear. Alternatively, you can also opt for Vayne and Nasus and form an early Light combo with Jax. Both of these champions can also store items that you can later give to Olaf and Zed.

Are there alternative builds? Blitz champions have become extremely popular since patch 9.24. Therefore, they can sometimes be hard to find in the pool. Especially Zed is in high demand due to his versatility.

An alternative is a combo of Berserkers and Poison. Here, you replace Ornn and Zed with Twitch and Singed. This is particularly useful when your opponents are focused more on Mages and require mana.

At level 9, you have the option to combine the two builds and swap Ornn for Singed or Twitch. After that, you have 3x Poison and 2x Blitz on the field.

Swordsman, Assassin, Steel, Cloud, Mystic

Which champions does the combo use? You already know this combo from the last guide to the meta. It benefits from the nerf on Phantom Dancer and is therefore currently even stronger.

4 Swordsmen and 3 Assassins are used, complemented by many other bonuses:

  • Yasuo – Cloud/Swordsman
  • Master Yi – Shadow/Mystic/Swordsman
  • Sivir – Desert/Swordsman
  • Nocturne – Steel/Assassin + Swordsman via an item
  • Kha’Zix – Desert/Assassin
  • Qyiana – [Cloud]/Assassin

The champions are complemented by:

  • Rek’Sai – Steel/Hunter
  • Jannah – Cloud/Mystic
Via LoLChess

These attributes are used by the combo:

  • 4x Swordsman
  • 3x Assassin
  • 2x or 3x Cloud
  • 2x Steel
  • 2x Desert
  • 2x Mystic

Which items does the combo need? A spatula (also referred to as the “Spatula”) is essential for this combo. This should become a Blade of the Ruined King, which goes to Nocturne. In addition, you will use:

  • Nocturne – Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Bloodthirster
  • Sivir – Giant Slayer, Red Buff, Silence
  • Rek’Sai – Warmog’s Armor, Dragon Claw

How does early game go? At the beginning, it is advisable not to focus too much on the combo. Use Forest/Druids or Hunters to survive the start. With the latter, you can already deploy Rek’Sai.

At level 6, you will then try to build the combo, especially if you already have the Blade of the Ruined King. A first combo then is:

  • Rek’Sai
  • Nocturne
  • Yasuo
  • Sivir
  • Aatrox
  • Qyiana and/or Kha’Zix
Qiyana Splash Lol Weibo

Are there alternatives? The build is relatively rigid, but you can create some different builds with Qiyana and her elemental combined with Malphite or an ocean champ.

Alternatively, you can also use Zed as the third assassin instead of Qiyana.

Summoner, Assassin, Ocean, Mystic

Which champions does the combo use? The combo uses summoners and assassins to eliminate enemies and bring many of your own units to the field. It consists of 5 core champions:

  • Yorick – Light/Summoner
  • Azir – Desert/Summoner
  • Zed – Blitz/Assassin/Summoner
  • Kha’Zix – Desert/Assassin
  • Qiyana – X/Assassin

These are complemented by:

  • Nautilus – Ocean/Guardian
  • Nami – Ocean/Mystic
  • Soraka – Light/Mystic
Via LoLChess

These attributes are used by the combo:

  • 3x Summoner
  • 3x Assassin
  • 2x Ocean
  • 2x Mystic
  • 2x Desert

Which items does the combo need? No item is strictly necessary in this combo. However, useful items include:

  • Kha’Zix – Rapid Firecannon, Infinity Edge
  • Nami – Morellonomicon, Spear of Shojin
  • Zed – Guardian Angel, Release Blow, Dragon Claw
LoL Azir Splash

How does early game go? In the early game, you either opt for a Druid/Forest combo or an Ocean/Mage with Vladimir and Syndra. Use Thresh and Nautilus for a long time as frontliners since both are guardians.

A possible early combo of the summoners Zyra, Azir, and Malzahar/Yorick/Annie is also an option. If you find an early Annie, the Inferno buff can also be helpful.

Thresh will then be replaced by Nami in the late game, while the remaining summoner can be replaced with Zed.

Are there alternatives? Yes, the build is among the most flexible:

  • Annie can be used instead of Yorick.
  • If Qiyana has Cloud as her origin, Jannah can be a replacement for Soraka. In general, Jannah can also be well used as a ninth champion.
  • You can replace Nautilus with Singed in the late game. Singed is extremely strong, and you only forgo a bit of mana due to the Ocean buff. This disadvantage can be balanced out if Qiyana has the Ocean origin.
  • A suitable ninth champion is also Thresh to utilize him and Nautilus as frontliners.
