In Teamfight Tactics, the LoL Auto Chess, it is about the “Best Combo”, the best combinations of champions and items. In our guide, we look at what top players are playing for combos, what items they use, and what strategy they follow.
Update October 10: The combos in this article are outdated. However, we also have an overview of the current combos from Patch 9.20 for you.
Who are the best players right now? The best players in Teamfight Tactics, who are at least publicly known, are Hearthstone streamers who have switched to the new LoL Auto Chess.
A few days ago, the first major tournament in Teamfight Tactics took place. It was for $15,000.
The most money with $3900 was won by Dogdog, who is also a Hearthstone champion. Second place went to Disguised Toast.
Best Combo: Full aggro with Draven and Imperials?
What stood out at the tournament? It stands out that Dog plays incredibly variably and takes what the board offers him.
It is not that you see from the first minute what he will play in the endgame. Rather, the combo he plays in Teamfight Tactics constantly changes.
In the early game, he runs with Nobles and uses the incredibly strong Pyke while speculating on 3 pirates to earn bonus gold.
Then he suddenly has some Imperials in hand and quickly builds a 2-star Darius.
But in the background, Dog collects what he actually wants to play. Once the “new high-tier heroes” reach 2 stars, he throws out the old ones and switches to the new tactic.

This is his goal: By the end of a match, Dog has a plan in mind for what he wants to play. He does not have a “best combo”, but adapts his combo to the availability of heroes and items.
Dog pursues three goals with his plan:
- Dog wants to have “high-tier” heroes at two stars in the endgame
- create meaningful synergies
- and have the right items on his key figures – he builds the items that are considered “high tier”.
In contrast to other players, Dog does not collect to 3 stars, but uses rarer heroes that he keeps at 2 stars.

This “best combo” often leads to: Usually, his lineup at the end of a match looks quite similar:
- He often uses Draven as a kind of “hyper-carry” with strong items like Rapid Fire-Cannon (double range, cannot miss). This way, he dominates the battlefield. With 4 Imperials (Darius, Katarina, Draven, Swain), he receives bonus attacks.
- In this combo, DogDog uses heroes like Sejuani, Cho’Gath, Kindred, and Brand to prolong the fight: these are all tier-4 heroes.

- Brand often plays a central role in Dog’s builds, loaded with mana items. When it makes sense, Dog builds “3 elementalists” with heroes like Brand, Lissandra, and Kennen. This way he has a golem on the field.
- As a tank, he often uses Sejuani and Cho’Gath.

Further observations from the tournament: Players use some nasty tricks. A sort of meta seems to be developing in Teamfight Tactics:
- Those who rely on assassins in Teamfight Tactics often play a Blitzcrank. He pulls an opponent out and thus gives his assassins more room to jump.
- Morgana with three demons (Varus, Brand, Aatrox or Swain) and a lot of mana burn is a nasty combo. Here, Morgana takes the central role and receives the items.
- Shyvana with Phantom Dancer becomes almost indestructible when Aurelion Sol is there for magic immunity.
You can take this away from the tournament: A “best combo” in Teamfight Tactics is not static, but adapts to the conditions. The goals you pursue when building the combo are always the same: 2-star heroes, high-tier heroes, synergies. Items.
