However, the release of GTA 6 is getting closer and many fans are wondering what will happen to GTA Online and their progress when the latest installment of the series is released. The CEO of Take-Two has now given an initial answer to this.
Who provided the answer? Strauss Zelnick gave an initial response in an interview with IGN about what will happen to GTA Online when GTA 6 arrives.

What does Zelnick say about the future of GTA Online? Zelnick states that Take-Two intends to support its products if players show interest. As an example, he mentions NBA 2K Online, which was not discontinued even after NBA 2K Online 2 was released. “Both are still on the market and serve consumers, they are alive and we have a huge audience,” he explains.
However, Zelnick emphasizes that his statements regarding GTA 6 and GTA Online are merely theoretical, as he does not speak about projects for which no announcement has been made yet.
Nevertheless, it sounds like there is a possibility that GTA Online will remain playable even if GTA 6 should have its own online mode. “We have shown that we are ready to support older titles if a community wants to engage with them,” Zelnick elaborates.
