In February 2022, the latest expansion for the MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic will be released. The Legacy of the Sith continues the story around Darth Malgus and brings some new content. We at MeinMMO summarize everything important for you.
Update February 15: Currently, the SWTOR servers are down. A new trailer for the expansion will also be released at 5:00 PM.
Update February 13: The exact time for the release is now set. The Legacy of the Sith will be released at 7:00 PM German time. Prior to that, there will be maintenance lasting 6 hours (via Twitter).
The new update 7.0 brings the following innovations:
– The max level is raised from 75 to 80
– New story content, including on the planet Manaan
– The new Flashpoint ‘Ruins of a Sith Fortress’
– A revision of the drops to almost completely eliminate randomness
– The introduction of legendary gear
– A revision of the class combat styles
– The operation R-4 Anomaly, which will be released shortly after the expansion starts with patch 7.1
– New events and updates that are expected throughout the year after the expansion launches
The new expansion will be released on February 15, 2022. There will be a downtime from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM, after which the expansion is expected to go online. The release was postponed after it was originally planned for December 2021.
The expansion is completely free for SWTOR subscribers. However, if you are not a subscriber, you cannot play. Typically, one month should be sufficient to see most of the content, so you should plan for 12.99 euros for it.
Yes, many of the new features are already playable on the PTR, although some story content will be held back until the final release comes.
Story and Flashpoint of Legacy of the Sith
What is the story about? Players can look forward to a continuation of the story from Onslaught. The expansion takes place on Manaan, a water planet. The Sith Empire is trying to seize control of the Kolto deposits and occupies the planet.
The story unfolds somewhat differently, depending on whether you represent the Republic or the Empire. After completing the story, you will unlock a new operations base and daily missions.
Although Manaan is a water planet, all activities will take place on land. There will still be no swimming mechanics in SWTOR.
What happens in the Flashpoint? The new Flashpoint ‘Ruins of a Sith Fortress’ continues the story around Darth Malgus. He is rumored to be hunting ancient relics on the planet Elom. That is exactly where your journey will take you.
Flashpoints are akin to the dungeons of SWTOR. In the story, they can be played solo, but there are harder modes where you will rely on other players.

Combat Styles for Classes and Changes to the Loot System
What is the deal with the combat styles? The biggest innovation in the Legacy of the Sith pertains to the classes. They will receive the so-called combat styles. This means that at the beginning, you choose a path – Tech or Sith – and then you can freely choose between combat styles (essentially the old classes):
- Troopers will have access to all kinds of weapons, such as sniper rifles, which was not the case before.
- All Jedi Knights will access combat styles like Guardian, Sentinel, Sage, or Shadow over time.
- Sith players can choose between the combat styles Juggernaut, Marauder, Sorcerer, or Assassin.
This is also intended to ensure that your gameplay is no longer bound to a class story.
What changes are there to the loot? A further significant innovation in Legacy of the Sith concerns the loot. It will no longer depend on randomness:
- New gear should no longer be obtained by drops, but through quests, weekly missions, the group finder, or directly through PvP.
- Bosses will drop a currency that you can use to buy new gear.
- Fame and random drops will be removed with patch 7.0.
- However, there will still be random rewards and vanity items as random drops.

Operation R-4 Anomaly with Patch 7.1
Operations are akin to raids in SWTOR. They are more challenging and require groups of 8 or 16 players. The new operation in Legacy of the Sith is called R-4 Anomaly and is expected to be released with patch 7.1. The challenging master mode will be released sometime in 2022.
In the story, a shady Sith cult is gathering technologies to create a terrible weapon.
This must be prevented, no matter whether you are playing on the side of the Empire or the Republic.
Galactic Season 2: Shadows of the Underworld
Along with the new expansion, the second season in SWTOR will also start. This will bring some cosmetic rewards from the Shadows Syndicate. Also included is a companion from the species Duros.
The seasons themselves were introduced with patch 6.3 in March 2021 and were very well received. There are a total of 100 reward tiers, and you can complete them by mastering daily and weekly challenges.
Anyone with a subscription will automatically unlock the pass, so there are no additional costs. Furthermore, you can catch up to the “average” with in-game currency if you start the pass later.
PvP, further improvements and plans for the time after the release
What new features are there for PvP? So far, no adjustments for PvP have been announced.
What smaller updates are there? With Legacy of the Sith, some small adjustments will be made, including:
- A new character creation
- Adjustments to the UI and inventory to modernize the user interface
- Conquests will yield fewer credits
- Incomplete daily and weekly quests will disappear when the reset occurs
What happens after the release? The developers plan new story updates, further adjustments to the UI, more seasons, and new flashpoints for the period after the Legacy of the Sith.
In general, there will be some events throughout the year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of SWTOR. The developers also revealed that there is a plan for at least another 10 years.
