The survival MMO Last Oasis launched in late March in early access on Steam and initially received mixed reviews. Many found the forced PvP to be a negative aspect. However, there is now a solution for that, which is being widely used by the community.
What’s new? For several days now, players can rent private servers for Last Oasis. These servers come in various sizes and price ranges.
Players are currently using them primarily to bypass the game’s biggest criticism: the forced PvP, which was also criticized by MeinMMO author Benedict Grothaus.
Large clans occupy areas and gank new players due to PvP. This, along with technical issues at launch, led to negative reviews on Steam.
Is everything better with private servers? While players welcome the basic introduction of private servers and can finally explore the world in PvE, criticism of these is growing.
The reason for this is the lack of configuration options and the limited size of the map.
Players miss settings and have to enforce PvE harshly
What can the private servers do? The private servers for Last Oasis are currently limited in their capabilities:
- Up to 5 squares of a map can be used on a server. However, only 1 square is active at a time. Rotation is required, which also limits the map’s size.
- Event maps are currently inactive, which is why there is no iron, for example.
- Configuration options are available for: XP rates, respawn rates, and gathering quality.
- Additionally, the servers are password protected, and the owner can block players.
The blocking feature is also currently enforcing PvE. There is no real setting for that. If a player attacks another, they are simply kicked from the server.
How to get private servers? If you want to set up a private server with your friends, you can currently rent one from Nitrado. This is the official partner of Last Oasis (via Twitter).
You only need the Steam version of the survival MMO and a bit of money for this.
If you don’t want to spend money, you can join another player’s server. In the discussion on Steam and in the subreddit, you will find various proposals for PvE and even roleplay servers. Here too, only a game version of the survival MMO is needed.
Are there going to be improvements for private servers? Yes, the developers from Donkey Crew want to expand the private servers.
However, it is currently unknown when more configuration options will come and whether there will be a PvE feature.
Player numbers are declining, reviews are mostly positive
How is Last Oasis doing? At the beginning of May, we took a closer look at MeinMMO on the status of the survival MMO. Since then, the player numbers have slightly but steadily declined, while reviews have become slightly more positive.
In the last 30 days, there have been 1,813 reviews, 71% of which are positive.
Also, in the last 30 days, an average of 8,789 players played Last Oasis, with a peak of 16,564 simultaneous players. However, on May 26 and 27, the MMO only peaked at around 8,800 players.
In the coming days, it will be revealed whether the private servers will help to increase the player numbers again. Although Last Oasis started with problems, it still made it to the 6 successful new online games in early 2020 on Steam.
