In Subnautica 2, you will find yourself once again in a huge underwater world. For many, the question arises about what will happen with the map. How will the survivors navigate? Will there be a map to orient themselves? According to the developer, there is already some information about it.
Will there be a map? A classic map that you can access and use for orientation is not planned in this form according to the developers (Source: Reddit). The underwater world will be gigantic, and navigating it will be difficult, but the developers have a logical reason for not including one.
The game world will be much more vertical compared to other competitors in the genre. Due to the different depths of the ocean, it is correspondingly more challenging to represent all these areas clearly in 2D on your map.
Also important to the developers is to encourage your sense of exploration by striving to discover the unknown and venturing into areas that are hidden. If you had a map, you would already know what to expect in certain areas.
How should I navigate without a map? Essentially, you have two options. Either you do it like in real life and try to build your own map in your head or in a document. You can place markers and try to orient yourself based on the locations of your important POIs.
Or you wait for a mod to be released on Nexus Mods that will map your area. That way, you won’t be completely lost if you tend to get lost. After all, there is already some information about mods for Subnautica, as there will likely be some, but not officially from the developers.
