The games of Hideo Kojima are known for containing many cinematic elements. No wonder, as Kojima himself is a huge fan of movies and often collaborates with many actors and directors. Now he is allowed to adapt his own work into a film with a suitable studio.
If you follow Hideo Kojima on social media, you will notice that he is an incredibly big movie fan. In his games and announcements, he often works with actors and directors. Recently, he announced a collaboration with horror director Jordan Peele for a new horror game.
On Twitter, he announced yet another collaboration, this time with the film studio A24. Kojima Productions and A24 are now supposed to adapt Death Stranding into a film. Kojima says: We are creating a Death Stranding universe that has never existed before.
A Film Studio Full of Indie Hits
A24 is an interesting choice for a film studio. Not a streamer like Netflix and not a large triple-A studio, but a studio known for its unusual indie films. The probably biggest film of the studio Everything Everywhere All At Once
won 7 Oscars last year. An incredibly high number for a rather unconventional film.
The other filmography of the studio also fits the unusual Death Stranding. Midsommar
and Beau is Afraid
by Ari Aster are unconventional horror films that are loved by many critics. But titles like Dream Scenario
, The Lobster
, and The Whale
also show that A24 gives its directors a lot of freedom for creative expression.
Kojima himself praises the film studio in his announcement tweet: The films they release into the world are of high quality and very innovative. I have felt attracted to their works and they have even inspired my own work.
Just as the game itself breaks many conventions, the film is also unlikely to be a classic blockbuster. The collaboration with A24 promises to deliver an extremely interesting adaptation of Death Stranding. Apart from the announcement by Kojima and A24, nothing is known yet about actors or the story.
However, a trailer for the sequel to Death Stranding was released last year that excited MeinMMO author Marie Friske:
If Death Stranding 2 really turns out like the trailer, a great sequel is coming our way
