On the PTR of Overwatch, a new patch is active that adjusts the hero Reaper among other things. He is now able to heal himself more effectively. A streamer demonstrates how far this self-healing can go.
What happened? The latest PTR patch for Overwatch from January 7, 2019 has enhanced Reaper’s self-healing. Instead of healing 30%, he now heals for 50% of the damage he deals. Caster and streamer MoshuBeef experimented with this and posted the results on Twitter.
All About Reaper – How the Healing Works
This is what MoshuBeef did: In a private match, MoshuBeef teamed up with some players to maximize Reaper’s new healing. To do this, he increased the health points of all heroes so that the numbers are also readable.
His team consisted of the following heroes in addition to Reaper:
- Zenyatta
- Ana
- Mercy
- Orisa
He tested the damage on a Roadhog, who, due to lack of armor, but with a massive health bar, is the ideal dummy. Moshu let himself lose some health before the entire team buffed him.
He was enhanced with Ana’s Nano Boost, Prisa’s Super Boost, Mercy’s Valkyrie, and Ana’s biotic grenade. Roadhog received Zenyatta’s Orb of Discord. This allowed Reaper to heal for 628 with one shot, more than double his total health.
This is how the healing is made up: In another tweet, MoshuBeef demonstrated how the healing is composed. A normal shot, where all projectiles hit, deals 140 damage. With the PTR patch, this results in 70 healing. Furthermore:
- 50% from the Super Boost
- 50% from the Nano Boost
- 30% from Mercy
- 30% from Zenyatta’s Orb of Discord
- 50% from Ana’s biotic grenade
- 200% from a critical hit
The absolute factor by which it is multiplied is therefore 8.97 for critical hits and 4.49 for non-critical hits. MoshuBeef also provided a table with calculated values that are not only based on observations.
Is this realistic? No. While it is possible to reproduce these healings, it is very unlikely that it will occur in games. For one, the team would need three healers just to buff Reaper. Their healing would already be more useful than Reaper’s self-healing.
Additionally, two ultimates would need to be used just for Reaper, who then would have to go to close range. All this would be a waste of resources and not realistically feasible.
What do you think of the healing?
The promised surprise is not Reaper’s buff, however. Instead, Overwatch suddenly received a new Ana event.
