The Lunar Sale is currently running on Steam. One of the games on offer is Borderlands 3 – and if you don’t know it yet, you might want to take a look.
This is Borderlands 3: Borderlands 3 was originally released in September 2019 and received a delayed release on Steam in March 2020. So it is no longer a “new” game. Nevertheless, the loot shooter is still a pretty strong option – especially if you enjoy twisted humor.

Loads of Weapons and Cool Abilities
This is what makes Borderlands 3 special: The game describes itself on Steam as a “shooter-looter” and that’s exactly what you do most of the time in Borderlands 3: Shoot at enemies, collect weapons, shoot at more enemies, collect better weapons. It doesn’t get boring thanks to the action-packed gameplay. Plus, there are:
- Different worlds with varying settings: While you travel through the desert on Pandora, you later venture through high-tech cities, swamps, or moons with reduced gravity.
- Different enemy types that you should use the correct weapons against
- Loads of different weapons…
Especially the last point makes a lot of difference in Borderlands 3. Aside from finding weapons with various stats, many of them also have unique gimmicks. For example, you can find:
And that’s just the beginning. If you enjoy variety in weapons in a game, you will not be disappointed here. Especially when you start looking for special legendary weapons.
This is how the characters work: In addition to the firearms, there is a comprehensive skill system with various abilities. You take on one of four characters:
- Zane, who works with technical gadgets
- Amara, a Siren with phase powers and melee power
- FL4K, who relies on different pets
- Moze, who causes a lot of explosions and can deploy a large robot
Each of the four has 3 skill trees (or 4 with the Designer’s Cut) with unique playstyles that can be meticulously developed. In addition to searching for the perfect weapon, you can also hunt for the ultimate build.
A Ridiculously Fun Coop Experience
This is how you play together: The Steam version of Borderlands 3 can be played with up to 3 additional players in online coop. The game is particularly ideal in coop.
On one hand, you can perfectly complement each other with different characters. On the other hand, there are some endgame contents that were originally designed for coop gameplay. These include the Maliwan Takedown and the Guardian Takedown – two especially tough challenges (although these can now also be completed solo if desired).
The entire atmosphere in the game is just more fun with friends. Borderlands 3 has a pretty ridiculous humor that is best enjoyed together on fun coop nights.
Of course, you can also play Borderlands 3 solo, but the story isn’t necessarily the most captivating aspect of the game. It’s probably more fun to team up with a few friends and shoot through the world together.
Strong DLCs and More Content
Borderlands 3 delivered more: Apart from the main game, Borderlands 3 has brought in a lot of content that provides a lot of fun. This includes free events that still take place regularly.
Moreover, there were also four story DLCs, which were convincing with their own stories, loot, and exciting settings.
- In DLC 1, you explore a casino planet and meet old acquaintances
- In DLC 2, you land in a creepy horror village on an ice planet
- The third DLC drops you into a Wild West world
- And DLC 4 finally places you in the mind of the insane psycho Krieg.
Especially for fans of the older titles, the DLCs featuring guest appearances by former characters were a blast, but in general, they work well (like the main game) even without prior knowledge. The Super Deluxe Edition and the Ultimate Edition also include this content.
And in the Ultimate Edition, the Season Pass 2 is also included. This includes, among other things, the Designer’s Cut with a new mode and additional skill trees, but also the upcoming Director’s Cut. This will include, among other things, a new raid boss and new story missions.
Who Is Borderlands 3 on Steam Not For?
Sure: If you can’t get into shooters or looters, this game is not for you. The majority of the fun consists of fast-paced combat and collecting various weapons and abilities. You really need to like the genre to enjoy it.
Additionally, you should steer clear of it if you prefer tactical, slow shooters or serious games. In Borderlands, something is always exploding and you often move extremely quickly through battles. The phases in between are often filled with jokes – if you’re not into silliness, you are also in the wrong place here.
The story, in which you are supposed to take down two megalomaniacal cult leaders who recruit their followers via streaming, is entertaining and holds the game together. However, if you expect a narrative masterpiece, you might be looking in the wrong place here.
One last important point: While split-screen shooting is possible on consoles, this is not supported on Steam. You should keep this in mind as well. Additionally, the game can sometimes be cheaper if you buy it on console – if you have a choice, you should consider this.
But if you have no issues with these points, then Borderlands 3 is the right choice for you. Recently, the world of the game has also gotten a bit louder – because a film adaptation of the series is in the works. Jack Black was just cast as the robot Claptrap.
