A test is currently running on the Steam platform that categorizes “adult-only” games and shows selected users their erotic games rated 18 and older.
This is new on Steam: On the evening of December 9, 2020, Steam released a new developer blog (via steamcommunity.com). It revolves around “new ways to browse on Steam”. With this experiment, which users can join through Steam Labs, the Valve team aims to improve searching on Steam.
Games in the experiment are assigned to more specific categories. Instead of just RPG, there are now subgenres like Action RPG, J-RPG, Rogue-Like, MMORPG, Strategy RPG, or Dungeon Crawler.
Additionally, there are categories on themes such as “Games with significant decisions”. Or also “Adult Only”.
What can you see in “adult-only” on Steam?
If you want, you can sign up for the experiment via the linked developer blog on Steam and confirm that you would like to see “adult-only” content.
In the overview of categories, you will find the point with “Adult Only” in the “Offer Areas” – in English “Adult only”. By taking this step, you will be suggested very direct games with sexual content.
They are also categorized with tags like “Sexual Content”, “Nudity”, “Adult Only”, “Hentai” or also “Dating Sim”.
What kinds of games are there? Among the selection of games displayed to you are titles like:
- BustyBiz – Here you should prove your manager skills and build an empire with adult content
- Among Ass: A parody of the popular Among Us, but instead of normal characters, players walk around with behinds (and yes, they can also wear hats) – So it’s not really pornographic, but rather a meme
- Sex Quest: An action RPG adventure where you play as a nymph. The main goal is to become the queen. Explicit scenes are shown during the quest progression and finally at the conclusion of the story with the king
- Megacraft Hentai Edition – A kind of Minecraft. But you control a scantily-clad female character
Why is this good? Risqué games have been on Steam before as well. In May 2018, the news spread that Steam planned to take action against games with pornographic content. But just a few days later, Steam took a different direction. Valve no longer wanted to decide which games would be released on Steam and which wouldn’t. The result: Sex, violence, and controversy – All games are coming to Steam
For players who explicitly search for such content, a new category is likely helpful. They no longer have to look in parent categories or by tags, but instead have a new direct filter.

The hentai game Mirror made positive news in early 2020. Because the developers gave away 55,000 copies of the game on Steam to combat the corona virus.
