In Starfield, you may encounter foreign ships during your travels across the galaxy, which may be friendly or hostile. If you want to take them over, you need to keep some things in mind. We will show you everything you need to know to sell a foreign ship.
How do I capture ships? There are two ways to capture ships:
- You steal landing ships on a planet
- You take over hostile or peaceful ships in space
We will now show you both options, what you need to keep in mind, and ultimately, whether capturing ships is worth it.
Are you looking for a strong weapon to start dealing with enemies? Then we have just the right video:
How to capture ships on planets
What do I need to do? To steal ships on planets, you first need to find one. Land on any planet and search the open area for landing ships.
If you spot one, immediately sprint into the ship and ignore the enemies. It might be that the pilot on board gets scared and immediately flies away when they see you fighting in front of the ship.
Note that not every landing ship is operated by pirates. Peaceful factions like colonists also land on planets from time to time. You can also steal these ships, but be prepared for a possible bounty from the rangers.
If you managed to get into the ship, you may need to pick the lock with a lockpick. Now you take out the remaining crew on the ship and take control of the steering.
You should now steer the ship to any spaceport and talk to the local ship maintenance technician. You must register the ship with them. You pay a small fee, and from now on you can call the ship your own.
What can I do with the ship? You can now use, dismantle, upgrade, or sell the ship.
Depending on the class of the ship, the sale price will be higher or lower. It might be worth looking for and capturing ships of class B or C to sell.
How to capture ships in space
What do I need to consider? Before you can capture a ship in space, you need an important skill called “Targeting Systems.” Once you unlock this in the technology tree, you can target individual systems of ships, including the engines. This is crucial if you want to prevent ships from fleeing.
Additionally, it is beneficial to improve the “Flying” skill so you can later control ships of class B and C. These will also earn you more money.
What do I need to do? To capture ships in space, you first need to find a hostile ship. You can also attack and capture peaceful ships, but it is not worth it as you would receive a bounty.
If you have found a ship, switch to attack mode and destroy its engines with your targeting systems.
Now you can slowly fly towards your target and dock. Once you are inside the ship, you must eliminate every pirate to gain full control of the ship. Remaining enemies will be shown with red dots on your compass.
Once you have cleared the ship, go to a spaceport again and talk to the local ship maintenance technician. Have your ship registered and it belongs to you.
Is it worth it to capture ships? Depending on how valuable your ship is, it can definitely be worth it to capture a ship and then sell it. If you enjoy space battles and want to earn extra money as a bonus, stealing ships is a great side income.
But don’t expect enormous sums; there are other ways for that. Especially if you are looking for a better ship than your starting vehicle, taking over foreign ships is worthwhile.
