Chewbacca probably fought for his home
In The Secrets of the Wookiees, one learns that Kashyyyk, the home of Chewbacca and other Wookiees, has been attacked by the Trade Federation for many years:

This shows that the Federation has been attempting to seize foreign planets long before the invasion of Naboo – in this case, that of the Wookiees.
During the Clone Wars, the Trade Federation received additional support from the Separatist Alliance to launch a final attack in 19 BBY to conquer Kashyyyk once and for all.

At the end of the Clone Wars, Chewbacca was with Yoda in his homeland. In Star Wars: Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith, the Wookiee is 181 years old (his species has an average lifespan of 400 years).
Thus, it is likely that Chewbacca witnessed the years of invasion attempts by the Trade Federation and fought alongside the other Wookiees against the enemies.
A “Star Wars” comic also revealed the important role of a character that barely appears in the films. We are talking about Cyborg Lobot, who is Lando Calrissian’s right hand:
