Bonus: The strategy games in Warhammer 40,000
In addition to the games mentioned here, there are many strategy games in the world of Warhammer 40,000, which we did not include because here you play entire factions and not individual characters.
Nevertheless, it’s worth a look at the genre, as Warhammer as a tabletop is a strategy game in itself, and the genre as a video game represents a very faithful implementation. Some personal recommendations are:
- Dawn of War, especially the remaster of the first part – parts 2 and 3 are significantly worse
- Mechanicus, where you play the Tech Priests of the Imperium and will soon receive a part 2 with playable Necrons
- Gladius, a turn-based strategy game that highlights the peculiarities of the factions better than most Warhammer games
The world of Warhammer is not only made up of Warhammer 40,000 but encompasses three settings with completely different stories and peculiarities. Space Marines, however, are only found in Warhammer 40,000 (and its spin-off, the Horus Heresy).
Consequently, there are also two other settings where you can discover strong games without Space Marines – just without the other peculiarities that make Warhammer 40,000 what it is. But if you’re interested in the world itself and want to stretch your feelers towards fantasy, you can find more here: Warhammer has more to offer than just the grim world of 40,000 – Here are the 5 best games for Warhammer Fantasy
