Update, January 22, 2026: So far, there is still no update regarding a console release for Sons of the Forest.
The most important thing first – This is what the developers say about a port to consoles:
We would be very happy to bring the game to PlayStation and possibly Xbox after the early access phase. But we currently have no concrete plans. At the moment, we just want to make it the best PC game we can.

Release on Consoles?
Is Sons of the Forest also coming to consoles? The likelihood is high, but the developers currently do not want to confirm anything.
Sons of the Forest runs in the Unity engine, just like Forest 1. Unity has powerful tools that are very helpful in porting to other platforms.
Due to the great success of Sons of the Forest on Steam, a port to PlayStation and/or Xbox is not only conceivable but even likely.
More likely for PlayStation, because the developers have already gained experience on PS4, and it sounds in the statement regarding the console porting as if Xbox has lesser prospects for a port.
When could Sons of the Forest come to consoles? Since Sons of the Forest has already left early access, it is unclear when exactly the port for consoles will take place.
From Steam, it is clear that the developers are still working on further bug fixes and adjustments for the game. The game may need to be polished further before it is considered for consoles. So don’t expect it before the end of 2025.
How did it go with Forest 1? The Forest 1 was in early access for 4 years, was released as a complete game in early 2018, and at the end of 2018 for PS4.
Is crossplay a topic?
Will Sons of the Forest offer crossplay? Unlike the console release, this can be doubted.
Even The Forest 1 did not have crossplay, and in the survival genre, this feature is not necessarily common. Although more and more titles are coming with crossplay that are available on multiple platforms, smaller games like Sons of the Forest offer this feature very rarely.
