In Sons of the Forest there is now a glider. We at MeinMMO show you where to find it and how to use it.
The survival hit Sons of the Forest received its first major content update on March 9, 2023. This update includes a binocular and a glider that you can use to travel the map. If you don’t know where to find the glider, you can find all the necessary info here to glide through the map after all.
Find the Glider in Sons of the Forest
Where can you find the glider? In the middle of the map of Sons of the Forest, there is a snowy mountain landscape. There you will find the black glider on the mountain at a slope.
Next to the glider, there is also a camp with orange tents where you can save and sleep. The descent is on the east side of the mountain.
For rough orientation, you can use the cave where you can find the shovel. However, from the cave, you still need to walk a bit and climb the mountain.

How do you use the glider? The glider is a portable object that you cannot store in your inventory. As long as you hold it in your hands, you can use it. To do this, you need to press the interaction key.
How do you fly with the glider? The travel device cannot fly on its own; it can only glide. You need to equip the glider on a slope and jump off from there. The slope where you find the glider is ideal for this.
However, keep in mind that you cannot equip your GPS while gliding. So make sure to check the map beforehand and decide which direction you want to fly.
Here is a summary of the glider controls:
- When you are in the air with the glider, tilt it down with the W key. This will increase your speed and put you in a descent.
- If you press the S key, the glider tilts up and slows down its speed somewhat. This allows you to counteract a potential descent.
- Since the glider only glides and cannot fly, it is not possible to gain altitude while in the air with it.
- If you want to land with the glider, you should avoid trees and similar obstacles. If you collide with something, you will drop the glider, and depending on the height, you may suffer considerable fall damage that can even kill you. Try to always find a clear area to land if possible.
- To land with the glider more precisely, press the S key and look up as far as possible. You will now barely move forward and will be very slow. This way, you can glide to the ground gently, similar to using a parachute.
If you have landed or crashed with the glider – and survived – you can still carry it with you. Just go back to the glider and equip it again. However, even while carrying the glider, you will drop it if you touch a tree or something similar.
Does the glider despawn? In our tests, the glider did not despawn after we collected it once. It has always stayed where we left it.
We tested a possible despawn in the following situations:
- Distance – We moved far enough away from the glider that it was no longer rendered. When we subsequently returned to the position where we left the glider, or reentered the render distance, it was still there.
- We were also able to carry the glider to our camp and go to sleep. After the night, it was still in our camp.
- Even after logging back in, after leaving the server or closing the game, the glider was at the spot where we left it before logging out.
