For 23 years, the blue cult hedgehog Sonic has been racing across screens. With so many levels he has already traversed, it wouldn’t be surprising if he returns home after a hard day’s work. However, SEGA’s lore manager shares a sad fact about Sonic.
What has been discovered about Sonic? The new magazine “Sonic the Hedgehog Annual 2025” has been available for a few months. It contains interesting facts about Sonic, such as that he lives in the Green Hill Zone. No wonder, as it was the first level where the journey of the blue hedgehog began.

Many fans like X user whisperwoIf were happy that Sonic seemingly found a home to return to after his exhausting adventures. But X user MisterCrits, who deals with the lore of video games at SEGA, intervened and revealed that this fact is an error in the magazine.
You might know Sonic the Hedgehog from many video games:
Sonic is homeless and a drifter
What does the lore manager say? Chris Hernandez works as an associate manager for the lore of Sonic the Hedgehog. He is supposed to ensure that the new stories fit with the older parts and that there are no contradictions.
With so many video game installments, movies, and series, it is no wonder that a dedicated person is needed to ensure the accuracy of the story. He clarified on X that unfortunately Sonic does not have a home:
Sorry for showing up so late! This was something we discovered early on, but it looks like an older draft accidentally made it through. Sonic doesn’t have a home; he is still a drifter.
Will Sonic remain homeless forever? This means that Sonic wanders through the worlds with his groundbreaking speed, without ever returning to a place. However, the lore manager’s statement does not rule out that Sonic might find a home in the future. There are still plenty of opportunities to provide him with a cozy home.
Video games and movies about the cult hedgehog are still being released. Just a few weeks ago, Sonic X Shadow Generations came out for PC and consoles. In the movie sector, the third part of the film series is coming soon. Maybe he will find his home in the third movie or later.
As an employee at SEGA, Hernandez is doing well. The company stands up for its employees by demanding compensation if they are insulted: Don’t mess with Sonic – Sega threatens to take legal action against anyone who insults their employees
