Ready or Not has sold 13 million copies so far. The recent release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S has contributed significantly to this. However, many old fans were upset about it.
What game are we talking about? Ready or Not is a tactical hardcore shooter where you act as a SWAT team completing dangerous police missions. The game can be played both solo and in co-op.
Ready or Not launched in Early Access on December 17, 2021, on Steam and aimed to stand out with its unique realism from the beginning. Two years later, version 1.0 was released, and on July 15, 2025, the shooter made its way to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Shooter celebrates 13 million copies sold – many on console
Overall, Ready or Not has sold 13 million copies since its release: This announcement was made by the development studio Void Interactive in a cross-post. Of these sales, 3 million were achieved on consoles.
The post states: “3 Million fans of Ready or Not on PlayStation and Xbox and continuing to grow. Across PC and console, the LSPD has grown to over 13 million officers responding.”
For the release on consoles, the developers made several decisions that were not popular with many veterans. Angry fans wrote hundreds of negative reviews because the developers yielded to the wishes of Sony and Microsoft.
Why are old fans upset?
- On June 27, the developers announced in a post on Steam that the PC version of Ready or Not will undergo content changes to remain compatible with the console version.
- For example, some depictions of violence and nudity were reduced, and explicit depictions of violence/mistreatment against children were scaled back.
Many old fans yelled that this was “censorship” (as in this Steam review). They also claimed that Ready or Not loses the very realism that attracted many players in the first place.

After these changes, there was a flood of negative reviews on Steam. However, the shooter has largely recovered since then: The reviews for Ready or Not on Steam are 76% positive and are therefore “mostly positive”.
Battlefield 6 is also currently striving for a more realistic atmosphere on the battlefield. But now, the developers are introducing a new tool that divides fans. You can read more about this in the article: Battlefield 6 completely overdoes it, letting you tear down buildings like Thor
