With this tool you can challenge your Shiny luck in Pokémon GO. The “Shiny Luck Simulator” simulates how many throws you might need for Shiny Charmander and Co.
What’s it about? In Pokémon GO you can catch the Shiny version of some monsters. These shiny Pokémon have, outside of special events, only a low chance of appearing.
They are special because they have different colors than the “normal” Pokémon species.
A trainer has coded the chances of Shinies into a program and created a website that is now available to you.
On the website you choose the Pokémon that you want to catch as Shiny and can then simulate encounters at the push of a button. It counts how many encounters you need to theoretically catch the Shiny version of the monster.
How does the tool work?
Here’s how you participate: The simulation of your Shiny luck works quite simply.
- Visit the website on Codepen.io
- Select the Pokémon for which you want to simulate the Shiny chance
- For example Charmander
- Now tap repeatedly on the image of the Pokémon to simulate an encounter
- You can also hold the image of the Pokémon for a quick run
- If a Shiny appears, you can see it by the typical star animation that you also know from Pokémon GO
The developer of the tool, _Maxime_ hopes that you can better estimate the chances of Shinies in Pokémon GO with it.
Things to keep in mind: Remember that there is no guarantee of encountering a specific Shiny after a certain number of encounters. Charmander has a Shiny chance of about 1 in 450. So the odds should be good to find one Shiny in 450 encounters. But that’s no guarantee. As you can see in the simulation, I needed 1370 encounters for 2 Shinies.
This is what the testers say
The reactions: On reddit the website is well received. The post has achieved over 2200 upvotes and more than 430 comments in 14 hours.
Players say:
- “Okay, this is more fun than the actual game”
- “Hey this is addictive, good job!”
- “This is the best thing on the internet today, thanks”
Also, trainers are actively sharing their streaks that they needed until they found a Shiny.
- “3159 for a Shiny Bulbasaur, that’s just hunting. It must be a sign”
- “I got a Shiny Stoutland after 110 encounters. In Pokémon GO, I’ve seen over 2000 until my first Shiny.”
- “32 encounters for a Shiny Darkrai. In Pokémon GO, I have 0/63”
Try out the site right away and share with us in the comments your best or worst streaks.
If you want, you can then launch Pokémon GO and go hunting from home. In the big May event, many more Shinies await you to catch. All Shinies in the Nostalgia event of Pokémon GO.
