How I Met Your Mother was like a modern version of Friends – without being perceived as a cheap copy. The 5 friends were different, but you understood why Robin, Ted, Lilly, Marshall, and Barney were friends. The actors had great chemistry with each other, and the storylines, especially at the beginning, were not just funny; they represented various aspects of life.
As a later spot on this list also shows, emotional moments are just as important for a comedy series as good gags. Those who grew up with How I Met Your Mother will probably never forget the characters, but unfortunately, the series failed with its ending.
The last season and the last episode feel like foreign bodies, and many events and moments that were built up over the years are simply rendered void. This is terribly unfortunate, because with a good ending, the series could have made it even higher on this list.
