In Pokémon GO, Stardust is the most important resource. To collect it effectively, there are some tips. We will show you which ones.
Nothing works in Pokémon GO without Stardust. That’s why it’s important to know how to collect it effectively.
When Community Day starts on November 10th, players can look forward to possibly six times the amount of Stardust. To take advantage of such events effectively, some things need to be considered.
Simple tricks: There are simple tricks to quickly collect Stardust. We will show you the most important ones.
Tips for Collecting Stardust
If you consider the following tips, you can collect over 100,000 Stardust and more in just a few hours.
1. Use a Star Piece
This is probably the easiest tip. By using Star Pieces, you get 1.5 times as much Stardust. If you are on the go and know that you can catch Pokémon for at least half an hour, you should use a Star Piece.
Frequently on Sale: Star Pieces are often included in boxes that you can buy in the shop during events. Take advantage of this, as you can save a lot of coins there.
2. Take Advantage of Events
You can collect Stardust effectively especially during Stardust events. When such an event is ongoing, you should especially hunt for Pokémon.
Bonus on Community Day: During Community Days, you often receive more Stardust when catching Pokémon. This was the case, for example, during the Eevee Community Day.
3. Catch Pokémon
You primarily get Stardust by catching Pokémon. If a Stardust event is running, you should focus more on catching Pokémon instead of doing Raids or Gym battles.
Don’t Catch All Pokémon: Even though you should focus on catching Pokémon, it’s still not good to catch all Pokémon. Monsters like Sunkern or Volbeat are real ball-eaters. Save your balls for these monsters and throw them at Pokémon that stay in the ball more easily.
4. Utilize Clusterspawns
Clusterspawns are places where many Pokémon gather. Walk around your city and remember these places. Connect them into a good route and walk this route repeatedly.

Avoid Unknown Areas: If you are hunting for Stardust, avoid walking in unknown areas. You don’t know the spawn points and could walk through streets where no Pokémon appear.
5. Keep Moving
One of the most important things when hunting for Stardust is movement. If you catch a lot of Pokémon in one spot and hardly turn any PokéStops, you risk running out of balls. Without balls, you can’t catch new Pokémon.
Movement Hatches Eggs: Another advantage of moving a lot is that you hatch eggs. Eggs give you additional Stardust, and especially with a Star Piece, not an insignificant amount. A 10 km egg without a Star Piece gives 3200 dust.
6. Catch Evolutions
If you have the choice between a Sunkern or a Pidgeotto, definitely take the Pidgeotto! Evolutions like Pidgeotto give significantly more Stardust than the first stages.
Final Evolutions are even more worthwhile: If you encounter a Pokémon at the third evolutionary stage like Pidgeot, you get 500 Stardust without a Star Piece.
7. Save Quest Rewards
Another trick is to save your quest rewards. If you completed a field research and encounter a Pokémon, run away. This Pokémon will be “stored” in your field research and can be claimed at a later time. Claim the reward when you have no other Pokémon to catch or when you’re using a Star Piece.
Especially Useful During Events: If there’s actually six times the amount of Stardust on Community Day, you should save your rewards until then. If you don’t have a Pokémon to catch nearby, claim your rewards and cash in.
8. Use the Catch Trick
The last trick is probably the most difficult and requires some practice. However, it is also the most effective. With a trick, you can catch Pokémon faster and thus collect significantly more Stardust on average.
The video visually explains the trick. Practice the trick a bit before starting Community Day on Saturday.
This is how the Catch Trick works
- Click on a Pokémon
- With one of your left fingers, swipe from the position of the PokéBall selection (PokéBall symbol in the lower right corner) from right to left. Keep your finger on the screen. The PokéBall symbol will only move slightly and won’t open the selection.
- With your right hand, throw the Pokéball as usual at the Pokémon
- If you hit the Pokémon, let go of the screen with both hands
- Before the Pokémon can escape or stay in, click “run away” in the top left corner
- Click on the same Pokémon again
- If an error message appears at the top of the screen, you have caught the Pokémon or it fled; if you can catch the Pokémon again, it has escaped
Practice makes perfect: With a little practice, you will master the trick quickly and can catch many more Pokémon than usual.
If you consider these tricks, you will collect Stardust significantly more effectively and quickly. Use these tricks on the weekend of Community Day and you will see how fast the collecting goes.
