Nvidia has commented on the availability of the RTX 3080 during a conference call. According to Nvidia, it may take some time before you can get an RTX 3080. There are various reasons for this.
Nvidia has released a very strong graphics card (GPU) for gamers with the RTX 3080. Accordingly, the demand for the very fast GPU is extremely high. However, they can barely keep up with the supply. There is also speculation about a possible memory upgrade for the RTX 3080.
Where does the information come from? At Nvidia, there was an “Earnings Call”. This is a conference call where a corporation discusses the financial results of a quarter. Several people from Nvidia spoke during this event.
Who spoke? Colette Kress, the Chief Financial Officer of Nvidia, explained during the call that it might take some time before there are enough graphics cards available again. The first devices were sold out immediately:
Many of our retail and online partners were sold out immediately and the RTX 30 series was the biggest launch we have ever had.
Although we expected strong demand, it even exceeded our highest expectations. Given industry-wide capacity constraints and long cycle times, it may take several months before product availability matches demand.

Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang also stated that they would be pleased if the supply could increase more quickly. But due to COVID, they are currently in a difficult situation. He said: “But we would welcome shorter cycle times; we would welcome more flexible supply chains.” However, it may take some time before the situation improves.
Sony, Microsoft, and AMD also affected by high demand
Nvidia is not the only company currently facing challenges with high demand and low availability. Alongside Nvidia, Sony, Microsoft, and AMD are also struggling with this:
- AMD has been struggling with high demand since the launch of the RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT. The graphics cards were sold out immediately and there is still high demand.
- Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S is also currently sold out. Meanwhile, the Xbox chief has stated that this will not change quickly until there are enough consoles.
- Sony’s PlayStation 5 was also sold out immediately shortly after pre-order. However, there is often a replenishment. Overall, the devices are also in short supply here.
