With the Kone XP, Roccat presented the successor to the popular Kone AIMO Remastered. MeinMMO editor Bendikt Schlotmann was able to test the gaming mouse and explains to you who can benefit from this gaming mouse.
The most important points at a glance:
- The Roccat Kone XP is an ergonomic right-handed mouse.
- The device costs 89.99 euros and is expected to be available from March 29, 2022.
- In testing, the mouse offers crisp clicks, a precise scroll wheel, and a unique design. However, the greatest strength of its predecessor is not carried over.
Which mouse is it about? The Kone XP is the official successor to the Kone AIMO Remastered. For me, the Kone AIMO Remastered is among the best mice available for purchase. Accordingly, my expectations for the new mouse from Roccat are high.

Scope of delivery, design, and construction
What does the scope of delivery look like? In addition to the mouse, there is a quick start guide and replacement feet for the mouse. The software can be downloaded directly from the manufacturer.
How is the mouse constructed? The Kone XP is available in both a white and a black design. The construction of the mouse remains identical: the manufacturer’s logo is on the “back” of the mouse, and the Roccat name is displayed on the right mouse button.
- The main buttons are located on the top of the mouse. In between is a 4-way scroll wheel and a single button. On the edge of the left mouse button are two small switches that can be reached with the index finger.
- On the left side, there are 5 additional buttons. In the thumb area, 4 buttons are closely arranged, while the fifth button is located in the thumb’s resting area. The Kone XP does not offer a sniper button, like the G502 Hero or Rival 5. However, the Kone AIMO Remastered did not have such a button either.
- The white shell of the mouse is textured, providing better grip than a smooth case. The transparent area of the case, on the other hand, is smooth.
In terms of lighting, Roccat opts for a very colorful design compared to the Kone AIMO Remastered and other mice. The semi-transparent case lights up the entire mouse body, which may seem unfamiliar at first glance. This reminds me of the distinctive design of the Roccat Burst, which MeinMMO also tested.
The cable is non-removable and is permanently connected to the gaming mouse. The mouse can only be used in cable mode.
How is the mouse held? The mouse is a right-handed mouse and can only be used by right-handed users. You can hold the mouse both in a palm grip and in a claw grip. For those who tend to use their mouse in a fingertip style, the Kone XP may become too heavy over time, similar to the AIMO Remastered. The 100 grams of the mouse may cause strain on the wrist over prolonged use in fingertip grip.
Build quality
The casing gives a solid and well-constructed impression without any significant weaknesses, and the scroll wheel and buttons feel good. During the shake test, nothing rattles, and the mouse appears to be well manufactured at first glance.
However, the build quality is not perfect: especially where areas transition into each other, such as between the white casing and the transparent shell, dust and dirt can accumulate. I cannot say whether dirt can also get into the mouse this way. That may only show after several months of use.
Software
The Kone XP uses Roccat’s well-known Swarm software again. For other devices like the Syn Pro Air or the Torch, Roccat opted for the new NEON software. I consider delivering the Kone XP with the Swarm software the right decision because Swarm feels much more polished than NEON.
If you, like me, have previously played a lot with the Kone AIMO Remastered, you will find all settings again in the Kone XP. However, compared to the AIMO Remastered, the Kone XP has received some new functions and some features have been rearranged.
The many nested menus still make Swarm appear cluttered and not very innovative, but the software has worked without issues during the testing period.
On the next page, I will explain how the Kone XP performs in practice. I will compare the mouse directly with its predecessor and also look at other mice.
