Currently, the Festival of First-Person Shooters is taking place on Steam. Players can grab many offers and test demos. Among other things, you can get the demo of a one-man project that lets you fight at the Finnish-Russian border.
What game is this about? Road to Vostok is a first-person shooter that is still in development, but has a demo on Steam already.
Inspired by games like Escape from Tarkov and the actual border between Finland and Russia, where the solo developer lived for 20 years, he aims to create a sandbox shooter that motivates players to experience their own stories.
A video gives you a good impression of the post-apocalyptic setting and a brief introduction to the demo from the developer himself:
Demo of Road to Vostok available on Steam
The demo was released two weeks ago on Steam and therefore does not seem to be specifically tied to the action on Steam. However, it is also not known how long the demo will be available for download afterward.
When will it be released? An exact release date for the game is not known. Since a change of engine recently took place, the release might take a little longer. On the official website (via roadtovostok.com), the developer has already indicated that the full version should cost between 20 and 25 euros.
What can you expect? Road to Vostok is a single-player first-person shooter that promises not only an intense survival sandbox experience but also aims to score with some features:
- Realistic weapon mechanics with tactical weapons
- Advanced survival systems
- Hostile NPCs and “permadeath” elements
- Various medical conditions
In addition to realistic weapons, the maps are also supposed to be based on real locations. The game world consists of several individual maps that are connected and each have their own level of difficulty. The idea behind it: The closer you get to Vostok, the harder the maps become, but the better the loot.
Ultimately, you will cross the border to reach Vostok. You reach this city through various points that allow you to cross the border. In Vostok itself, caution is advised, as it is a dangerous and mysterious place and a “permadeath” zone. In this case, your death would mean the loss of everything, including your save data.
The developer also answered the question of whether there will be a co-op mode on the official website. There he writes that he specifically decided on a single-player experience because it offers the game more freedom. However, he does not rule out adding a co-op mode, depending on the success of the single-player version.
